Yellowstone damage, baby blue RV

If any of you see a light blue motorhome with "high on life" in big letters on the sides, please notify the police. There is a group of 4 guys from Canada going around to National Parks and other areas in the country and filming themselves doing destructive acts.

A couple of days ago they were at Yellowstone National Park and filmed themselves damaging the bacteria mats at Grand Prismatic Springs. They had posted this on YouTube and on Facebook but have since taken it down after a major backlash on social media. This afternoon they were formally charged but so far have not been located.

Prior to this, they had other incidents at Arches NP, Mesa Verde, and the Bonneville salt flats. Hopefully the authorities will deal with them appropriately soon.

This is the third sad incident at Yellowstone in the past couple of weeks. First, a women was filmed going up and petting bison. Then, last week there were two foreign tourists that thought a baby bison was cold so they put it in their SUV to get it warmed up. Once the park service got involved, the mother rejected her baby so they had to put it down.

With a bus like the one pictured they cannot be found? British Columbia License plate number CF8 68N.

Seem pretty simple for the National Park Service to track them down.

The people that were involved in this incident have already been identified, and a criminal complaint filed against them, long before the first post in this thread was posted. In fact, the links provided clearly state this, I'm not sure why the OP wrote it in the manner he did, it's misleading.

If you read the link in the first post, you'll see they were caught, apologized and criminal charges are being pursued. It notes they may have "had contact" with a ranger in Mesa Verde.

The charges regarding Yellowstone were filed yesterday afternoon. As of when I made the post last night, they had not been caught nor have they as of this morning as far as I know.

The Mesa Verde incident happened a while back, prior to the Yellowstone one.

I'm sorry that some feel my post is misleading. There are many of us that are outraged at the nonsense that has been going on at Yellowstone, especially recently. Grand Prismatic is one of my personal favorites at Yellowstone. This group filmed themselves with the signs about staying on the boardwalks and off the bacteria mats prior to the filming of themselves willfully ignoring their destructive behavior.

They have pulled the photos and videos from their website and youtube showing the Yellowstone, Arches, Salt Flats, and Holocaust Museum incidents once their actions were brought to light. As of last night, they shut down their website other then the clothing line that they promote. Fortunately, many of these images and videos have been saved and available to the authorities.

Hopefully they will be caught soon.

I made the morning papers here. People who do stupid stuff and broadcast it on social media must be a special kind of stupid. They said they were sorry but maybe just sorry they were caught. I`m sorry that they are Canadians. It makes the rest of us look bad.

As Forrest Gump says, "Stupid is as stupid does." Those boys were some serious stupid. Rude Canadians, who would have thought it? That's our job!

Sometimes stepping off the boardwalks at Yellowstone is a self-limiting behavior (e.g. now and then someone breaks through the alkaline crust and plunges knee-deep into super-heated boiling water). Other times, a bison tosses someone into the tree tops, or an elk charges / injures yet another idiot.

Sadly, that this doesn't happen often enough to keep down the rates of destruction. Glad they made a donation, though I doubt it's big enough to make a tree-hugger like me remotely happy.

BTW, I once video-taped a guy at Yellowstone approaching a trio of fully racked-out bull elk early in the mating season because he wanted a closeup. I thought it was going to be a "funniest home videos" moment that would make me at least $10K, but the elks were kind enough to jump up, snort, wave their antlers at him and trot away instead of mowing him down. The guy clearly freaked out when he realized how big they were and how close he'd gotten to something that could clearly kill him if it wanted to, but he made it back safely.

Way back when they had just created that national park, some idiot easterner in top hat and tails poked a grizzly bear cub with his umbrella. Momma bear promptly relieved him of the umbrella and his life too. Too bad these dipsticks didn't have a similar Darwin moment.

Luckily, Yellowstone is an exclusive Federal jurisdiction national park. So they will be found, will be prosecuted and will face a variety of misdemeanor charges in the US District Magistrate Court in Mammoth Hot Springs - in Yellowstone (where park HQ is). Usual minimums are $500 or 6 months, or both for each charge (and each person). And the $5000 "donation" is nothing more than a promise on a Facebook page. And, while they were (sadly) from Canada, if they choose not to appear, they will be flagged in the US system and it will pop up anytime they present their passports at a US border crossing. It was not only a senseless, self-promoting act, but had big consequences.
