Exclamation Windshield Suction Cup Law

You won't believe this but people are getting pulled over and ticketed;

NOTICE TO DRIVERS IN CALIFORNIA AND MINNESOTA: State law prohibits drivers in California and Minnesota from using suction mounts on their windshields while operating motor vehicles. (See California Vehicle Code Section 26708(a); Minnesota Statutes 2005, Section 169.71)

So be warned, besides considering some of the rigs I have seen on the road this may not be such a bad thing. Between, radar detectors, XM radios, phones, note pads and GPS you can't even see the driver! Just because you are out of state does not exempt you from getting a summons.

Guilty

Guilty as charged here. Good laws for what should be a matter of common sense. Not in my TV yet but as I get older I need to pay attention to what could obstruct my vision. I believe VA has just passed a law prohibiting moving cell phone use by drivers under 18. Not a bad idea for drivers of all ages.

Practically every day here in the Atlanta area I see some moron with a portable DVD player on the dash. I couldn't possibly make that up.

I guess we can't keep our "AIR" sticker on when traveling through these states. It's too bad that some fools ruin it for the rest of us. What ever happened to common sense?

They tried to legislate it along with morality... and you know what happens when the government tries to "help"

Well, gee whiz; you know para (1) must prohibit the window stickers that VDOT (Virginia Department Of Transportation) requires on the front window.
I guess this means "Stay out of California"?
Or am I reading this rong?

Yeah, and we're not supposed to drive with a handicapped parking tag hanging from the rear view mirror either! )

The above is inclusive of just about all of New Mexico especially the cracked windshield part. About 50% of the vehicles in NM have cracks in the windshield.

It is also illegal to walk your cattle down Broadway in New York City.

Gee and I though we were bad...we are not allowed to tie up our horses, mules or oxen to parking meters within the city proper Last time I checked...there WEREN'T any parking meters! Maybe all the oxen pulled them out and that is why we have the ordinance.

Common Sense

Luckily most of the law enforcement officials in California appear to be using common sense when applying this law. There are numerous agencies and associations which use a window sticker as an identification or for parking. They are applied to the window in such a way that they do not interfere with the driver's view. New car stickers and temporary registrations are placed inside the windshield in the lower right corner as directed by the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.
If we just use a little commone sense when applying the stickers, for whatever purpose, we shoud be alright. I've never had a ticket for a sticker in my 37 years of driving in CA. Ron
