Wild Airstream Creatures

While taking a break from replacing the frame in my trailer the http://www.airforums.com/forums/f36/...rot-39673.html thread started to take an interesting turn toward talk about evidence of creatures we had found living in our Airstream trailers.

So I thought I would invite the forum in general to tell their stories or share evidence about creatures, wild or otherwise, found living, invited or no, in or in close proximity to Airstream trailers!

Here's my initial contribution. While stripping the interior during the shell removal process I found this mouse carcass behind the toilet. Now this mouse, or one of his clan, had apparently led a comfortable life in the trailer for a long time. I even found a cushy mouse nest made of shredded paper inside one of the furnace vents!

Here's one of about a dozen I found. Also found a dead snake in the street side wrap, right next to about 6 mice and a hundred paint balls, all in the wrap.

Kip, these wild airstream creatures have obviously lived pretty well inside our trailers. Especially that snake and his paint balls and mice! I understand why a snake might like having mice about but I wonder about the paintballs?

He shoots the mice with his paintgun. This is a great pastime with snakes, they even hold tournaments...

It is my understanding that since snakes have no hands, they spit them at high speed at the mice, hence, no paintball gun.

Sure, but who would sell paintballs to a snake? Aren't there laws about that kind of thing?

Yea the paintballs were a mystery to me also. Are they water based? I was thinking that the mice hauled them in for the moisture, you could call it bottled water.

Not really sure what it is but some museum keeps calling us.

Had a thread discussion last April about my AS loosing it appeal (only one mouse!)

Lew mad an interesting observation that 00 buckshot seemed the best anti mouse device. I had been using the 30-06 (now I have a 270 & want the 30-06 back). I like the heavier bullet better penetration when you run into a tough one.

I think over-all though the 00 buckshot will do the best job & the holes are easy to fix...just rivet them!

I was glad to see the skull, the AS factory can now answer the question about the missing gaurd critter.

Though I didn't find any evidence of snakes, I was wondering how mice and carpenter ants git along together? Up in the front section below the floor I found an entire colony of ants underneath the insulation. Now the ants were still alive so they outlived the mice! I was wondering what those ants were planning on building. They had a pretty big crew put together. I guess they were just eatin' the floor until they figured it out. Didn't find any paint balls though.

I need to dig a little deeper. Haven't found any dinosaur bones yet although a few of the mouses I found look like they were mummified by a group of Egyptians.

I must say though pulling out the various layers and systems on this trailer have revealed a lot about the previous residents there, human included. Obviously, the humans had unfortunately or fortunately abandoned ship for quite a while.

Are there any other Indiana Jones or Lara Crofts out there with stories to reveal?

Great thread. Looks like the anthropologists out there have beat me to the thread-punch.

Still there may be room for something devoted exclusively to wilder-ness found inside airstreams? Maybe not?

I have the frame out of my trailer and the shell is sitting up on blocks. The windows are open and the screens have been removed. So all manner of living wild creatures have open access to the AS. It's a wilderness party in the Ambassador!

Today I noticed that a bird has been building a nest in one of the empty speaker holes in the interior skin. A perfect place for a nest! Lots of little twigs and strings and things accumulating inside the space on the fiberglass insulation.

Ambie '64 I had hoped that folks would share tales about wild creatures living in their airstreams. Since you have an older Ambassador have you discovered over the years any wild creatures living in your trailer or at least merely wanting to live there? Maybe that scroll was left there by Essenes?

That looks suspiciously like a pipe bomb...you probably don't need to go to such drastic measures to clear out the critters.

Today I found out that those little spiral "worm-tracks" on the exterior skins of my AS are actually a form of filiform corrosion. Now this corrosion leaves signs that look amazingly like living worm tracks! Apparently this corrosion "tunnels" underneath the clear coating. Seems like a story right out of Dune!
