True, Terry, and I don't think it would get much distance either. Silhouette shooting may be the best option.

Yes, the flamingo's head can get a bit weighty...

Frank,

We all know what you did with the HF tool that you did not like... are we soon going to be able to visit your blog and see "Flame-ingos?"

Simple answer: Airstream and Pink Flamingos are history and tradition.

Surf and Turf is steak and lobster. Why lobster, what's the connection... history and tradition. Sometimes in life there is no plausible explanation, it just is! As long as we're having fun, who really cares?

Airsteams and Pink Flamingos rule!!!

P.S.
Purchased the most awesome set of pink flamingo sneakers at Winners.

I am a flamingo fan, maybe the way some are sports fans??? I do not understand watching football myself, seems like a big waste of time and money. I just love flamingos, even before I had an Airstream, when I had an Avion. They are just lovable mascots, just plain silly and colorful besides. I have a "flamingo head" outfit, just like the Parrot heads, pink wig to go with my flamingo shirt. It is the one fad that I have seen come around twice and I like it better this time than last time around.

Thanks for your thoughts and welcome to another Airstream site. Nice to see you here.

Wink First encounter with mass flamingo's

1976 The University of Texas. Student Council election. 40,000 students, 1200 which vote for Student Council. Two guys run for President and VP on the platform of Arts and Sausages. Campaign speeches, reciting green eggs and ham. Major objective eliminate student government.

So less than 3% of students care enough to vote. Only people running in recent history are folks that imagine themselves being US senator some time in the future (this is when they are 20 years old).
Guess what. They win. At the "coronation" there is something like 1000 pink flamingos on the mall in front of the tower.

They banned Student Govt. not sure, I think it took 2 years for it to return.

It was a really cool sight.

I am ok with anyone checking the facts and correcting them. I have pretty foggy memories of those days

I don't particularly like pink flamingos but I have two. Why? Because they are retro. You don't see any on lawns today (unless you live in Floridaaaah - I don't) Airstreams are retro. So retro with retro.

Joe3957 - I was there then... Bill Whittaker aka Ralph Bonchance and I did the t-shirts for Art's & Sausage... also ran the inflatable doll from the tower down to the library during the ceremonies... wow, now that's a flash from the past. What ever happened to Skip Slyfield? Turk Pipkin's making movies...

Flamingoes are funny until everyone does it.

I have many friends who set up a 4 by 4 with a non functioning faucet and electrical outlet mounted on it ( like they have at campgrounds).
It has gotten old but every once in a while they trick a newbie into asking
if they can use the faucet. One festival promoter actually made my buddy pay for the service. He gladly paid the $20 and now has bragging rights.
Now they compete. They bury a tube underground so the faucet works,
and have made an extention cable with a male end on it. They plug the male end into one of the outlets which supplies power to the other outlet.
Humor is in the eye of the beerholder. I don't drink.

The first order of business...

... after unhitching, leveling, hooking up shore power and sewer:
  • Deploy the pink flamingos
  • Don the Hawaiian shirt
  • Hoist the pirate flag
  • Fire up the gas grill
  • Employ the blender and make Margaritas
PARTY TIME!

Wow Bill,

You just went up another notch in respect. Anyone who has run an inflatable doll down the tower certainly deserves it!

Pink Flamingos

I think it is a "yin yang thang". Airstreams are so classy and cool they need some tackiness to keep it all in balance. You got to have balance!!

breast cancer

Let us not forget that the pink flamingo is associated with breast cancer fund raisers. I fly mine as a memory to friends who have died with this disease and also of those who are survivors. I have made many bracelets with pink flamingos and breast cancer ribbons as fund raisers and during breast cancer awareness month the pink flamingos decorate my bead store. Sandy

Now I have even more questions. I guess some things should just stay an amusement.
