Who Else is all hurricaned out?

As I sit here, unable to do anything or go anywhere due to the FOURTH hurricane that is going to hit Florida I am getting more than a bit frustrated. Frances and now Jeanne are going to pass either over my home or within 25 miles from me.

I have the MH at the house AGAIN, ready to be my replacement home if the need arises, but I wanted to work on projects today.

Anyone else having to "hunker down" for the storm??

You might be a Floridian ....

Just got the cable and Internet back after IVAN. Got this in my email.

Herb

You might be a Floridian if:

You exhibit a slight twitch when introduced to anyone with the first names of Charley, Frances Ivan or Jeanne

Your freezer never has more than $20 worth of food in it any given time

You're looking at paint swatches for the plywood on your windows, to accent the house color

You think of your hall closet/saferoom as "cozy"

Your pool is more accurately described as "framed in" than "screened in"

Your freezer in the garage now only has homemade ice in it

You no longer worry about relatives visiting during the summer months

You too haven't heard back from the insurance adjuster

You now understand what that little "2% hurricane deductible" phrase really means

You're putting a collage together on your driveway of roof shingles from your neighborhood

You were once proud of your 16" electric chain saw

Your Street has more than 3 " NO WAKE" signs posted

You now own 5 large ice chests

Your parrot can now say" hammered, pounded and hunker down"

You recognize people in line at the free ice, gas and plywood locations

You stop what you're doing and clap and wave when you see a convoy of power company trucks come down your street

Your depressed when they don't stop

You have the personal cell phone numbers of the managers for: plywood, roofing supplies and generators at Home Depot on your speed dialer

You've spent more than $20 on "Tall white kitchen bags" to make your own sand bags

You're considering upgrading to a 16" to a 20" chainsaw

You know what "Bar chain oil" is

You're thinking of getting your wife the hardhat with the ear protector, face shield for Christmas

You now think the $6000 whole house generator seems reasonable

You look forward to discussions about the merits of "cubed, block and dry ice"

Your therapist refers to your condition as "generator envy"

You fight the urge to put on your winter coat and wool cap and parade around in front of your picture window, when you finally get power and your neighbor across the street, with the noisy generator doesn't get electric

You're thinking of shaving your head and getting a black Gor-Tex rain suit, like Jim Cantore has and so is your husband

And finally you might be a Floridian if

You ask your sister up north to start saving the Sunday Real Estate classifieds

I lost the rest of my family room ceiling last night, part of it fell down with Frances. When the weather subsides I will go out to the farm and check on the Argosy.

I'm watching 50+ mph winds bending the trees... around my trailer. YIKES!!!!

I am also sick to death of this crap. Last weekend was nice being able to go out and do things, without the threat of imminent death looming over my head.

Good thing I haven't lost my internet... yet.

Ahhh, another day in paradise!

We are all hunkered down up here near Gainesville. Power has been flickering on and off. EU2000i is all gassed up and oil is changed. Just got back from helping one of our neighbors board up their house, as the husband is down in the Palm Beach area working to restore power from the last hurricane. We only boarded up our big picture window on the front of the house.

We had to cut our 20th wedding anniversary at Ft. Wilderness as they handed us a letter suggesting we leave early before Saturday morning. A bummer, cause we only got to 2 of the theme parks on our tickets.

Sure hope this is the last hurricane of the season, we should be "broke in" good after this one.

We feel for you...

Those of us who aren't affected wish there was something we could do to help. It's frustating knowing you guys have to ride these out and that there's not a thing we can do to help you out at this point.

We wish you all the best and wanted you to know we're thinking of you.

Everyone but Pick, of course... we TOLD you we'd get even with you for posting those poolside photos last winter while we were all freezing our *sses off!!!

No, seriously Pick... best of luck to you all! Keep us posted as you can.

Roger

I need a tow vehicle with an outboard motor. Can you send me one of those? Seriously, I posted some photos of the flooding at the farm where my trailer normally sleeps in my photo gallery. The area has not had a flood in recorded history. Till today.

That's it!!!!!!
I'm tired of spending my weekends sleeping on the floor of my office, and being the supervisor until someone else can get in. Our front yard looks like a used car lot, again.
The argosy, the escort. the van, truck, and my jeep in a one car driveway, of course we have spilled over into the vacant lot. Not bad for a city that does not allow RV's, and unlicensed vehicles parked on the grass, and more than the driveway can hold.
Look at Terry's latest pictures and you'll see why. I just hope Terry doesn't have to get up at 5:30 in the morning and pull me and the jeep out of the mud.
I'm sorry, I just seem to have Florida multiple storm depression!!
But thank you for listening (reading?)
Marie

There's no place like home....

At one point in time, I dreamed of moving to Florida for retirement and working part-time at Disney World surrounded by happy people. I haven't had that thought in the last 6 weeks.

I don't care what remarks people make about Kansas, I think I'll still use this as home base. We may be in tornado alley, but at least we can see them coming, they don't last very long, and you can go to the basement instead of leaving home. Come to think of it, that's the same reason I don't live in California.

Seriously, Florida folks, we are amazed by the amount of damage that we have seen on the news and pray for you all constantly. Our best wishes from the Heartland.

Beth Ann

The power went out at 2:05 PM, waited an hour, then fired up the EU2000i. Phone and internet still up. Heavy wind and rain constant since noon. So far no damage to any of our property, or any that I can see in the neighborhood. Rain guage says 1.7 inches, hard to measure rain when it is horizontal!

it still seems to be following I-75N according to the weather channel. I hope it downgrades rapidly.
I heard the other day a reason for all the hurricanes reaching florida. the Bermuda High that is in place during the summer months is west of where it usually is located. the storms have to go around and there is no place for them to go except to Florida or along the lower East Coast.

Good Luck

Good luck and perseverence to you all. Just accept it will be a long time before things turn "normal". We were at the epicenter of the "world series " quake. It took 6 months for the house to be liveable and years for the surrounding area and roads(Santa Cruz) not to look like a bombed out WW2 town. But people helped each other, and that was the best feeling. Hope you all keep your spirits up. You are all in our prayers, silver suz
