Where is Wally
For the last 2 days I have only been able to get to Save Wally about 10% of the time. I get an error message.
Is this just overload of people reading Leo's legal notice from WBCCI or a problem on my end?

I am getting a 404 Error message on Fire Fox and you do not have permission to access this site on Internet Exp.

The guide link works the other two still give an error message. If links do not work it is not my bookmarks.

Howiee, I sometimes get messages like those (404) when my connection is slower than normal. I have a broadband card and sometimes the speed is so slow that sites time out while trying to connect.
If the slowness persists, then I will go through the "activation" process.

Message is almost instant so I don't think it is a speed issue.
Like I say I got through about 10% of tries yesterday but zero today.
What is the activation process?

If you have the broadband card, I think it is one of the menu choices under Options (I'm on my Mac now, and the menu for the VZAcess Manager is different from the PC).
In essence, it tells the card to search for the closest cell tower. Since I live in a fringe area it sometimes gets confused.
But if you don't use the broadband card, then my idea is not very helpful.

Howie,
Verizon DNS servers have been hiccupping here for the past few days, though they won't ever admit to to it....
To help make sure the issue isn't in your PC, try this -
- Open a command prompt, by clicking Start, point to All programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command prompt.
- At the prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns and hit Enter.
- You should get a return message that says Windows IP Configuration, Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.
- To close your command prompt window type exit and hit Enter.
Try those addresses again....
Let us know how you did?
Best,

I had a similar problem with our local newspaper's website. I was getting 404 errors and unable to bring it up. I cleared cache and cookies and all that, still wouldn't work. Ultimately I removed FireFox and reinstalled (saved my bookmarks so I could load them back up), and it has worked fine ever since. Very weird problem.

Thanks JM2
I remember when Verizon had employees that knew what their products did. That was a long time ago.
Thanks again

When I typed the Save Wally Forums web address, the site gave me the 404 error. It did, however, work when I clicked on the link you provided Leo.
There is definitely a problem somewhere.

Of course in my world, Tim would have better information on this, just don't let him talk you into buying a Mac to resolve the issue...

now for a Real Controversy!!!!
just a simple cure for one of the many variants of "Windows Arthritis.... "
when my firstborn entered college 18 months ago, he preferred a MacBook Pro, as Macs are what our K-12 school systems use, and so that's what I bought for him. it cost well more than a "good" Windows notebook.
so far, in a year and a half, he's called me once for technical support, for a question and answer that took about a three minutes to resolve.
if Windows PCs were more like that, a large part of my business wouldn't exist!
same with my brother at Christmas 2008. "what should I buy the kids, a Windows PC / laptop, or a Mac?"
he bought the Windows laptop for about 1/3 less, but it's been back for factory repair service twice, and out of their hands for nearly 2 months.... what value is there in spending less when it doesn't work? it's not just the software, it's the hardware, too!
I'm sure that this will really stir the hornets nest here -
- for web surfing, email, audio, video, photography and the like - buy a Mac!
- for real business applications, or heavy duty gaming, buy a PC!
this is just one man's opinion; I'm not asking for a debate!
best,
