This is what I do. I maintain a blog so I can use whatever words and formats I like, but I also update a thread here on the Forums, so that my work can be included in the archived data here. Perhaps someday someone will find something useful in my thread, without having to search my blog.

Like I said, I feel like I've gained so much from this Forum, this is my way to try to "give back."

I still feel that I am a newbie to the Forums and Airstreaming. I purchased my Airstream December 07, and discovered the Forums by accident. I began making repairs to my trailer and with help from the Forums, I was able to navigate uncharted waters with just a few bumps and bruises.

At the same time the Forums gave me a window to watch and learn from those who are living the life, and allowed me to experience Streaming through their posts. It kept me motivated, and now my wife Franny and me have been living in our Airstream, travelling since October 9, 2008.

Now I find myself logging on less, as I am doing more on our adventure, and no longer need the same sage advice that I did when I first joined, and I offer what few tidbits I have to share on occasion. I still enjoy the site and will continue to check it out.

I have been here since the very beginning ( my Air # is 0005) , when there were just a handful of us looking for help with our Airstream projects.
Almost all of those few pioneers are gone now, for varying reasons.
I will say though that where this thread started, is what should be discussed more, though labor intensive; archiving and arranging the information, making the FAQ more apparent; things like how to polish or how to check this and that, have been asked a hundred times over.

I post almost exclusively now only to my threads on our twice a year Rallys, which continue to be a source of fun and fellowship.
I think the Forums still have a lot to offer, and will continue to do so. The fact that the original owners interests have changed are due to the success of this venture in the first place, which is why he has so many Forums now running.
Members will come and go.

I recently had a question about alternatives to the flimsy metal channel pieces used to attach cabinetry to the inside of the Airstream. I'm sure this has been discussed hundreds of times but the search function is, well, not great. What would be very useful is a distillation of all of the threads into an "Airstream renovation manual." While the forum format is useful for project dialogue, it's not necessarily great as a reference. A reference tome is inherently more "static."

So... an interesting question is, "Could we write a book"? I think we could... and I think we could do it by creating a draft chapter and then using the forum for feedback and editing. From a writing perspective (and I have done plenty), this is more putting together "bricks" than creating a document from whole cloth. For example, Chapter 1, All About Axles. It wouldn't be terribly hard to create a definitive answer to the oft-recurring "angle" question, add some visual aids, and boom. It's on to the next.

Now, is this going to answer Frank's original question, i.e., the forum isn't as much "fun" as it used to be? Probably not. I imagine this stuff is more exciting when you are digging into your first renovation rather than five years afterwards. Still, it does seem a shame not to harness this collective genius (take a bow, folks) into something.

I used to frequent another RV forum but it got out of hand way too often. I saw several times where a person would ask a question and would get lambasted by a "veteran" for not using the search function, and usally it was someone with fewer than 5 posts! I've seen many threads here where a new member will ask a question in the middle of a restoration about their own situation, and it gets answered politely, sometimes gently directing them to the proper forum where their question might get a better responce.

I guess every question has probably been asked at least once. I still like to check this forum out everyday and learn something new everyday. I've been a member for a little aver a year now and still haven't found that perfect Airstream for me. It will happen though, and when it does, you'll probably hear the same questions again!
