When camping goes wrong.....

here's a hilarous story from "Top Gear," the British video car magazine. The guys decide to try "caravanning," their word for our trailering. See what a bad tow vehicle, poor planning, and all things that could go wrong, do. 22 minutes of fun!

Very funny. When you start with a KIA as a tow vehicle it can only go worse from there.

Yea, but it was a Kia Diesel!

Simply painful to watch.

The highlights:

7:58 "What the hell... !!"

11:07 - Turning around. "The police said we should get a move on, or we would be sent prison for 20 years". Ha Ha Ha!

22:25: "And look at everybody, sitting outside their vans on 4.99 garden furniture waiting for Sunday night when they can set out for home and clog up the roads again..."

23:59: "How do you put a pan fire out?" [Hint: not by walking away from it and letting it continue to burn up your entire trailer!]

24:19: "James, one good thing has come of this, at least you don't have to apoligize for breaking the neighbor's tent".

It was pretty funny, but was a little bit insulting to British Caravaners generally.

Fun comments -- fun link!

Interesting to note a couple subjects talked about when AS opened their Europe venture:
1. Toilet cassettes
2. Note the forward axle position and light tongue weights. That raises possible regulatory issues that may not be feasible on this side of the Atlantic. Yet I wouldn't think Airstream will test ultralights here unless the large-obsessed end of the SOB RV market totally evaporates. Even with lighter tongue weights I don't think I'll be wheeling my 5000# Safari by hand anytime soon!

Wasn't somebody recently mentioning a factory visit -- and seemed to imply that the first production Airstream-Europe skins were being readied?

I really liked the idea of lighter tounge weights. I still wouldn't tow with a Kia!

It was very insulting to caravanners, but I think those guys came off worse than the caravanners - what a bunch of idiots! Very funny!

Oh, but you missed the best line... a tribute to Monty Python and the Holy Grail... "It's the Police! Run away! Run away!" as they run into the bushes as James is trying to turn the caravan on the highway...

I'm pretty sure the entire trip was scripted... including the fire and running over and later on burning up the neighboring camper...

Roger

Especially when they towed the charred remains out of the campground.

My favorite part was the towing speed. 30 whether in MPH or K(ilometers)PH. it is dead slow! and to put the drivers cell number on the electric sign in the back window!!!!!
