We have a wind chill of 17 degrees right this very minute....but I took Lily for her walk, anyway.

She has a fur coat, and it doesn't bother her.

We talked about a pellet stove, but we have around 20 acres of woods, so the firewood is relatively free and we'd have to purchase the pellets. However, you can find them by the pallet sometimes which save $$.

There is another way to use your wood stove and use more firebricks or something like them, this way uses less wood so there is less cleanup. I'd have to ask DH again about this way, he was discussing it with some friends a couple of years ago.

I have heard of the firebrick use.

Being a town girl, I have to buy my firewood, anyway, but it is still a very inexpensive way to heat a small and well-insulated house.

I would hate to have to give up the ambiance (sp?) of the woodstove, for just a plain old furnace, but am thinking the time may come when the physical part of it will be prohibitive. Thus.....perhaps replacing it with a pellet stove.

Or, I may be full of spunk and energy to the end!

23 degrees, with a windchill of 9 degrees this morning.

And.....snow, with a bit of accumulation.

Currently 75 with bright sunshine. Headed to low 80's today. Not a cloud in sight!

I feel positively tropical. Yesterday 65 deg. and sunny. Today 45 deg. and sunny. NO snow in the forecast. I think we did have a light frost a few days ago but I wasn't awake for it. The garden shows it.

It's cold, but never as bad as the TV weather people make it out to be. Why does everything have to be about extreme drama?
It is cold enough (30's) that I left the motorcycle in the shed today. It ain't the temperature, it's the wind. There is one stretch of road next to a bean field- the wind there takes my breath away- maybe I should try a different route-

Colder today than yesterday, and rainy. But the ten-day forecast still only shows the coldest overnight low predicted to be 35°F anytime in that period. Not enough to make me winterize yet.

I actually feel warmer on the bike because I'm so bundled up-
That wind coming out the north really takes my breath. That might not happen with a full face shield helmet- I do have one of those- somewhere-
