Hi, folks,

I certainly should have asked about this at the forum rally in Ft. Desoto... but I've been toting this tool around in the trunk and have yet to figure out what I'm supposed to do with it.

Humorous replies will be accepted, but what is it, really?

well, one of the objects is a plastic pink flamingo.

the other is a support for the second step that unfolds and hangs down from the top step.

you work it by taking the short end and jamming it up against the underside of the floor and the frame rail; the other end, with the longer piece of angle-iron, then fits up against the back edge of the step.

the original supports for this step were made of soft alluminum, and wore out easily, making for a flimsy stepping experience.

Long reach hook - designed to retrieve dump valve covers that roll under trailer and land exactly in the center - where you can't reach them (short of wriggling on belly through puddle around dump site) This tool can also be used like a shuffleboard que to knock cover out to the other side of trailer...

You guys are all SOOOOOO lame... leading poor Lamar down the primrose path with your dull conjecture about step reinforcing rods and all that. Lamar, don't listen to 'em for a minute. You have there, a really, REALLY rare piece that goes to (shhh... don't let anyone hear this out loud...) the Electrolux Death Ray. Yes, I know it sounds incredible, but I think it's a piece of the mounting equipment that allows the Death Ray to be mounted inside a standard Dometic Penguin air conditioner shroud. In fact, I think you can see it as part of the tripod in the last scene of the demo. They can be deployed remotely from the driver's seats of most vehicles using controls wired through the Bargman connector (you didn't really think that all those wires went to lights and stuff, did you?)

Anyway, for all of you skeptics out there... here's a link (quiet... we don't want this out) to the Brotron Labs website:

Hi, Chuck,

Could be... I found out (from your link) that the second step his been misfolded the entire time I've had this trailer. (I've never needed it.) I had to move my porch platform to get it down, and it was puzzling for a while. I had to consult the diagram a couple of times.

Okay, I can insert it and push the bottom step against it, and it stays there.

However, there are no marks on the step that indicate that this tool has ever been used that way. Since the step's made of aluminum, I think it'd show.

The PO took it out three times in the five years he owned it, and he actually borrowed a tow vehicle from his neighbor when he went. Neither he nor his wife are really tiny people. I doubt that they needed the second step either.

I was wondering if it had something to do with the way the awning touches the stove vent as it starts to urfurl.

Lamar, actually, I have one that is similar to that for my trailer, however it has an adjustable carriage bolt head with a jam nut that allows it to be adjusted for length. We use it regularly and it has never marred our aluminum steps.

and your sitting under your awning, occasionally you reach up with this tool and push the rain water that has pooled in the middle of the awning out to the edges.

What that thing really is an early attempt by Airstream to meet the challenge of the Leatherman universal tool, but obviously the prototype was a little too large for pocket use, so they included one with every trailer sold....

I'm tellin' ya, my answer is correct. I have one, and I use it just about every time I camp. The only time I don't need the 2nd step is when the trailer is parked in a spot where the ground is sloping upward toward the curbside. Unfortunately, that is the situation in the camper's home parking spot...otherwise, I'd have already taken a picture of it in action. Maybe I'll give it a try this weekend, if the sun ever comes out again.

I'm not sure if I can extend the second step all the way, without it touching the ground.

if you "never" need the second step, that means that you must either be really tall, or.......you need new axles.
