What would you do?

I got home today to find a note in my Airstream's jalousie window. A seemingly nice lady "would love to buy my tiny trailer for a workshop" in her yard. So- I am flattered that she thinks my Bambi II is cute and tiny and that she admires it. I have no problem with other folks thinking what I have is cool. I would have certainly entertained a conversation with her had I been home.

She left two phone numbers...so, do I: 1) call her back and thank her for her interest and tell her it is not for sale but help her with places to look for her own? 2) ignore the note?

I would have been so bold to leave such a note and have in the past. I never get a call back and always am left wondering...did the owner find the note or not?

Regardless, I think this is just the beginning. We live across the street from an antiques market and there is lots of tourist traffic in Spring and Summer. The AS sits right smack-dab in the driveway. I am pretty used to it, though- the Corvair trucks and the old Scotty camper draw attention when they are sitting the driveway, too. Maybe I need to make some "NOT FOR SALE" signs??

Be nice (as all the AS family is!), call her back and let her know it is not for sale. However EVERYTHING is for sale at the right price, so let her know what that is as well and perhaps she will quite thinking of Airstreams as "tiny trailers"!

I'd do 1), unless you feel like being nice will hurt you somehow.

I also think option the #1 would be great. Who knows... she might offer some ridiculous amount of money or you could refer her here and she might buy someone else's trailer and they would be so greatful to you.

Cheers.. Vinnie

From one Bambi owner to another.......Be careful, with that much traffic near your AS, you sure would feel really bad if someone took your baby. I've read too many sad stories of stolen units.

Give her a call. I'm waiting for one right now (for a Bambi II no less!) and sure hope they call me either way! It's just being nice....and everyone should be nice!

I'd give her a call. There are always gutted AS on our local CL that would make nice workshops, maybe point her in that direction.

As for there being a price for everything, I don't think there IS a price that would make me give up my Caravel if I know it was going to be turned into a workshop! My baby belongs on the road!

I think I would make a nice 'Not For Sale' sign or you're going to have looky-loos crawling around your yard all summer!

If some one took the time to hand write a note, I would call them back. She probably has a price way out of whack with your Airstreams value, but give her a minute before you turn her down. Tell her an Airstream makes a horrible workshop and she should keep her eye out for a Shasta!

I'm so excited to talk to neighbors and passerbys about my Falcon that I'm tempted to set up a chair in the driveway every evening. So I'd probably call her and talk to her 'til she regretted leaving that note. Also if you get that much traffic, throw a sign in your AS window saying "Vintage Trailer Locator Services Available" and start making some finder's fees.

I havea good Reese coupler lock on the trailer as well as really good neighbors who are always watching! I feel pretty good about that, not to mention that at this time, the Bambi's frame needs work and a thief would only get a few hundred feet before the jack and tongue were scraping the ground! Dad never had to worry about these eventualities with his 31 foot Sovereign; not that many people would be able to just tow it away...but it is a concern with our little ones.

Good luck with that Bambi II. I understood why she put "tiny trailer." Small Airstreams are meant to draw a crowd...and envious onlookers. Like I said- Dad never had this problem with his larger Airstreams. People always knew what they were and appreciated them for that, but the small ones really draw folks in.
