Rolex 18kt/SS Datejust...It's the only thing I've ever bought that is actually worth more than what I paid for it 24 years ago.

No luck finding your glasses. The watch was stripped off my arm playing with the kids at a friends house. I told him to keep a look at when the water level dropped in the Fall. In October he came by my office with a slimy glob and said he'd found my watch. One cycle through the dishwasher and it was brand...well it really wasn't like brand new but it still worked.

My folks still live in in Hilton.

I haven't had a wrist watch for at least 30 years—I had this cool old Army AF watch someone gave me, but it was stolen. When I had to know the time because of my profession, I used a pocket watch. It is an Elgin "banker's watch" made in 1903. My grandfather owned it and somehow my mother ended up with it and eventually gave it to me. Since he died in 1913, it hadn't gotten much use. I had it rebuilt twice, but in the late '90's it stopped again so I guess either the watchmakers or the watch weren't very good. Since then, I use the sun, the moon, the computer, the clocks all over the house and in the vehicles or just guess. I can also ask Barb since she loves her watches—I think she has two! Seems like a lot of watches to me.

Here's an interesting idea for a poll—how many of you wear a watch during sex?

always wear a wristwatch.for everyday use,i like my omega seamaster.if you are a wristwatch enthusiast, and keep up on whats going on you will see that the used market for highline watches is still pretty strong.as for rolex, good as cash.what makes one watch more valuable than the other is the movement inside and the supply that was originally put into the marketplace.a good timepiece will outlast an airstream many times.look at all the watch dealers that are advertising for estate sale pieces, hoping to make a big score from an uneducated seller.

Nope DONT NEED NO STINKIN WATCH!
I have not worn a watch for yrs. Cant afford a Rolex. I have my cell phone thats reminder enough ,Like Bob said TIMES RUNNIN OUT and I would rather not be reminded of how fast. So I also use the sun. Im retired, I dont need one.Besides there are clocks every where when I feel a need to know.

I have an old Rolex shoved in a drawer somewhere - I prefer my iPhone now. Most of the time I don't even care what time it is.

We even have atomic watches so your always on time. Thanks for the thread.

I'm a watchmaker's daughter. When we go camping I always wear my (Mickey Mouse) Citizen Eco Drive. It's very sturdy and it's ok if it gets wet.

My favorite watch is a vintage reproduction Hamilton. Hamiltons are classic!

I'm with BLMitch5 and Lynnetta. I got my Citizen Eco Drive(solar) as a college graduation gift from my Dad about 10 years ago and haven't taken it off since. I have one of the smaller ones(small wrist). Its all scratched up but still keeps time and no batteries. And, of course, my wife refuses to wear one. She bought me a new watch a few years ago, but it just sits in a drawer.

Just curious.
Mine was a case of stupidity...I had it on, when I went out to the field and a freak accident broke the crown off. It still works; all I have to do is shake it and it will start ticking again...I just have to wait until the 24th of the month, at 8:24PM to start it again!

I'm using a Timex Expedition - SS, date, white face, 24 hr with sweep second hand on a nylon wristband. I wear it swimming, doing dishes, in the shower, etc. For when I need a "nice watch" my wife bought me a lovely Seiko Kinetic in gold. I wear it on weekends if I think of it to keep it wound...

suunto vector

Best watch I've ever had! Three years ago Scout Troop gave me this Suunto Vector as a retirement gift. Only watch I use now, when I wear one at all. Backpacking, swimming, working, towing, it has done a lot of work and been through a lot and can take much much more. But the band doesn't pass sunlight so it leaves a tan line (lol).

Altimeter, barometer, compass, watch, alarm, stopwatch. Only wish the altimeter didn't max out at 29,700 ft -- really limits our towing choices, eh? Besides, it'll accurately gauge the hot tub water temperature, but I don't have a hot tub.

I didn't buy the one with the heart rate option (vector hr), didn't want to spend the extra bucks and don't plan to be training for anything. Just don't need the info, it would probably discourage me anyway.

When we're backpacking I can't wear it on my wrist at night if I want to hear the alarm in the morning -- the noise is pretty faint (not a real bad thing). The backlight is also pretty low, again not a bad idea -- doesn't affect your night vision.

Battery replaced once, straps still in great shape (and replaceable from Suunto), all functions work perfectly well, lens only slightly scratched. I'll buy the same one, in XBlack, if needed, but don't expect to need to. This one's good for long haul.

Jim

When the Scout Troop gave me a gift certificate I bought my Suunto Vector from REI (it has REI's name on one side) for a good price and get a rebate on it. whatta deal!
