Been retired since march. Discovered my wife and I can live entirely on our ss payments. I owe no one anything except normal daily, monthly bills. But the best thing since I am officially OLD I can say whatever I want to to whoever I want to and pretty much get away with it. We can still travel some and are enjoying our lives more than ever before. I hope everyone on the forums can do this eventually also. Jim

Yes, getting old is full of choices.

I want to go peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather.

Not screaming, like the passengers in the back seat of his car.

Wondering why Bruce is even thinking Whitsend is even near getting up at 0800.

I'm approaching fourteen years of retirement, nothing is better. It's amazing how the days fill up with "important" things that just can't wait, breakfast, fun stuff, lunch, fun stuff, naps, and dinner. Maybe there's a few non-fun jobs that have to be inserted in the daily to-do-list, but we try to miminize them. Just waiting for warmer weather to start prep'ing the AS for the next trip.

My dad worked for 33 years. His goal is to be retired longer than he worked. He has been retired for 28 years and counting.

I'm just counting the days (54) until our Airstream comes out of winter storage.

We are in a similar boat as AirEgger. SuEllyn retired in 2000 and I punched-out in 2002. The best part is that we were 50 and 53 when we were able to begin our permanent vacation.

It took us until 2006 to find Airstreaming. We wasted a few years, but better late than never. We jumped into Airstream travel and never looked back. We are now up to 1,200+ nights in Lucy (47% of our time), and have towed her over 100,000 miles in all of the lower 48. What a great experience. There is still a lot of this great country that we want to see and experience. We hope that the Good Lord will see fit to give us the time to do it.

We are now in Jacksonville. We plan to head home on Monday. We will stay home only long enough to do laundry, wash and resupply Lucy, throw away the junk mail, and head out on another adventure.

Brian

Is this thread about being retired? We have been retired 5 years, 2 months and 2 days. Yeeeee-haa!!

One of the most important things to remember about being retired is what a privilege it is, and to be thankful every day one is able to do it.

Hey Brian, have you seen this? Found it at the Minnesota store at the airport there.

If you wait until you can afford to it may never happen.

I know, that's what I'm afraid of. One of by best friends dropped a little over 10 years ago. He was 40.

Once the kids college is over, we'll have a little better picture. Can't even think of it till then.

Swimming in a heated pool and eating oranges from the trees in the RV park where our Airstream is parked for the winter in Mesa, AZ.

Cold as a witches you-know-what here in NC. We aren't used to this Alberta clipper nonsense. Got our taxes done this morning. Was hoping to pad our AS fund, but that wasn't the case. Oh well!!

This one caused a belly roll. Felt great. Thanks.

Lonewolf, I lived in western Canada for 50 years where all the nasty weather was attributed to a "Colorado low". Now that I live in central Canada, I have found out that the nasty weather is really due to the "Alberta Clipper". Folks in the Maritimes figure it's the "Jet Stream" that is responsible and we all know that most hurricanes incubate in the sands of the Sahara. Now, I have no idea what my point is.

It's a non-winter day (they said we were going to get a 50 year winter of cold and snow) so winterized the FaN early. Right now I am craving a trip. However, will probably still wait until the May long weekend.

The Earlybird RV Show is on in the valley. I may go to that.
