What is Ultra Leather?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there that has Ultra Leather in their Airsteam can tell me what it is. Is it real leather? Is it cold/hot on your bear legs when you first sit on it. The leather in my car sure is

I will be in the market soon, and was curious what current users think about Ulta Leather upolstery.

Thanks

Ultraleather is the result of selective breeding of the Nauga.

Here is a link that may help.

You are correct.
They also can get it fron ultracows and ultrahorses.
Fortunately we don't use the leather from Ultradogs.

The process of in-breeding has caused a reduction in their size, thus it takes more to build a sofa than before. This has caused the latest price increase. Also the global warming has changed their breeding habits which has reduced the number of those found in the wild. Envionmentalist are concidering putting them on the endangered specie list. I've heard there already is a movement ,"save the Nauga" that pushing for that listing.

Hi Denny!

Sky -- Silvertwinkie had the ultraleather option installed in his Safari SS. I seem to recall he had throws on it to keep it in primo condition. Maybe he'll see this and comment...

I have it and it is great to look at and is as comfy as the non ultra leather sofas. However, if you have litte ones, of the two feet or four paw kind, it's not a good idea. I keep throws on it just to keep it looking nice. Maybe I don't have to, but I've seen what the dog paws can do and know first hand what toys can do, so, if you get it and it's just adults, no pets, the Classic version is way more comfy than the Safari...different design and might have more padding. The non Classics aren't too shabby, but if I had to do it over again, I'd most likely go with a nice fabric pattern. That was one of the reasons I went to leather. None of the fabric patterns looked really good on the front sofa. Midnight sun looks good nowadays, as do a few, but back in 04, I like the spice trader interior, but on the sofa, as big as it is, looked like a zoo.

From the Ultraleather link:

". . . When in comes to durability and abrasion resistance Ultraleather® HP performs on a par with leather's legendary toughness, easily standing up to 400,000 double rubs."

Based on my calculations, where one rub = 0.12 noogies

400,00 double rubs = 96,000 noogies

and if 1000 noogies = 1 naugy

Then mathematically, one Ultraleather = 96 naugy naugas

Our Airstream has ultra leather cushions. The ultra leather is very supple and has a nice soft kid glove feel to it. It wipes clean. I have not noticed it feeling hot or cold. But then I have never been on them bare yet.If I was so inclined, then I think a nice faux or (ultra) fur would be quite right.

Cracked me up too.

But I think we should go back to Wheel Interested's barely scientific approach. Just barely would be better than no barely at all. IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE just try it once, hot or cold.
And of course, share your data.
Noogies not allowed. Please.

em.

ps This is my first offical effort at skyjacking or highjacking or is it kidnapping a thread. Barely.

On the serious side I have it on my 2007 Safari. It is very soft and we selected it because we were not impressed with the fabics available to us. We cover it because of our dogs but would do that anyway. It adds a very rich and custom look and I find it to be very comfortable.

.12 Noogies to all

Thanks for the info and the laughs. I did search for "Ultra Leather" and didn't find what I was looking for. Maybe I am blind.

Thanks again, this is a great site!

Here's a couple of links to ultra leather characteristics and I copied and pasted the first info.
http://www.astra-lite.com/colorsamp.html

When it comes to capturing the sumptuous aesthetics of fine leather, no material comes closer than Ultra-Leather®. This incredible sumptuous polyurethanematerial is rayon backed, lightweight and durable. It cleans up easily and rates impeccably at being tear, scratch, fade and stain resistant.

SO LIKE LEATHER, ONLY BETTER:
 • When Ease Of Care Counts- Spot cleaning and daily care virtually are worry-free. Every day stains, including red wine, coffee and tomato sauce, lift easily with soap and water. For tougher stains, use a mild cleaning fluid followed by a water rinse.
 • A New Era In Faux Leather Luxury- Ultra-Leather offers a new level of luxury when it comes to duplicating the look, feel ad overall aesthetics of fine European calfskin, Ultra-Leather is unrivaled.
 • In Sync With Environmental Concerns- It contains none of the volatile plasticizers and stabilizers found in vinyl-based products. Polyurethane-based product employs a back layer of rayon- a degradable wood by-product. Ultra-Leather is created by an environmentally safe process in which solvents are recaptured and subsequently recycled. Also, no animals are harmed in production of this material like real leather.
 • Block Hygiene Headaches Beautifully- Waterproof and stain resistant, Ultra-Leather protects foam padding from blood, urine, sweat, medical products, drinks and other contaminants. It also demonstrates some inherent antimicrobial properties and stands up to routine disinfections with a 5:1 bleach solution- with no loss of beauty or durability.
