What is it?
Can someone please tell me what this is? It is for sale and advertised as a 16' Airstream. Has anyone ever seen one like it? Is it a scam?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

He just wrote me back. He says it says Airstream on it, from the 80's. Says he has a title also. I think it was once wrecked maybe and they cut the back off. I will attach the other photo. Hes asking 4000.00 for it, but I dont see it! Apparently they "customized" it! They have a website! www.whdcustomrv.com.

That is pretty weird! It certainly seems to be some kind of odd modification. Pretty interesting, but not the most attractive trailer I've ever seen! I wonder what the inside looks like?
I don't want to hijack this thread, but I found this this thing earlier today & was wondering if anyone had any info on it. I started my own thread, but haven't gotten any replies yet.
1980 AIRSTREAM TRAILER 28ft
I have no idea what it is. It's advertised as a 1980 Airstream - but it's painted like an Argosy, and looks like it has steel endcaps like an Argosy. However, as far as I know the last model year for the Argosy was 1979, not counting the square models.
It also has the front window common to Airstreams prior to the introduction of the panoramic front window that was used in the Argosy line.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Evidently there was a point where there was going to be a 1980 model year for the Argosy. A brochure was created and the side striping corresponds to the trailer in the link. This scanned brochure is in the Airstream corporate library on the web under 1980 Specifications. I was shocked when I initially ran across the brochure when browsing the materials in the library. It appears that at one time an entire product line continuing that of 1979 was once planned for 1980.

super cute
I think that trailer is super cute.
I'd go as far as saying it's one of the best 80s models I've seen. I'd prefer if the rear were more rounded, but the port-hole windows are great! 16' is a fun size. If you get more pics of the interior, I would love to see them. I'd email the seller myself, but since I'm not a serious buyer, I think that'd be a party-foul.

It appears that the work was done by these folks. There's a picture of it on their website but not much information I could see.

It is pretty apparent that this trailer is the front half of a longer Airstream. I'm sure there was a lot of man hours spent in the modifications of frame, shell, interior, etc. Is it worth $4,000? Probably to someone, even if only the seller. Is it worth $4,000 to you? Only you can answer that. I'd be concerned with the tongue weight to trailer weight ratio. It should not exceed 10-15% of the total trailer weight and I don't see that being the case with the axle so far toward the rear.
Let us know if you decide to buy it or can post interior photos.

Well, that's one way to prevent rear-end separation.

I think it's a painted Airstream, some folks did that when the clear pealed off. All Argosys have the name front and back, as you can see it has airstream on it.

Actually it looks like the rear of a trailer that they turned around and added a tongue.
Very unique looking but not for me.

I think it's kinda cute! That would give the WB something to grouse about at the next internationals... think a blue/green Argosy is unique? Hee Hee!
FYI, the owner of the RV place does come on here on the forums from time/time. I do remember a Clipper they redid that looked pretty cool. It appeared to be good work.
I'm also curious about that Argosy 28! Weird about the windows.. maybe to save money they made a prototype with the old wing window style.. definately has the steel caps from the lack of rivets on the roofline.
