Well, that's one way to prevent rear-end separation.

1980 AIRSTREAM TRAILER 28ft

I have no idea what it is. It's advertised as a 1980 Airstream - but it's painted like an Argosy, and looks like it has steel endcaps like an Argosy. However, as far as I know the last model year for the Argosy was 1979, not counting the square models.

It also has the front window common to Airstreams prior to the introduction of the panoramic front window that was used in the Argosy line.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
I think it's a painted Airstream, some folks did that when the clear pealed off. All Argosys have the name front and back, as you can see it has airstream on it.

Actually it looks like the rear of a trailer that they turned around and added a tongue.

Very unique looking but not for me.

Red face Mystery Airstream no Argosy no Airstream

It appears that at one time an entire product line continuing that of 1979 was once planned for 1980.

OOPs just saw the 1980 archive, it is an Argosy? someone changed the nameplate maybe??? shame they ditched the panoramic windows.

Sometimes, different is good.

I think it's kinda cute! That would give the WB something to grouse about at the next internationals... think a blue/green Argosy is unique? Hee Hee!

FYI, the owner of the RV place does come on here on the forums from time/time. I do remember a Clipper they redid that looked pretty cool. It appeared to be good work.

I'm also curious about that Argosy 28! Weird about the windows.. maybe to save money they made a prototype with the old wing window style.. definately has the steel caps from the lack of rivets on the roofline.

Saving a wrecked Airstream?

I was thinking the same thing, but then on closer examination I noticed that the door was still "suicide" and that there were two lines of trim behind the single axle, leading me to believe that it had once been a dual axle trailer which had been modified to a single axle when the back end was cut off. Had the door been moved from the road side to the curb side, the hinges would have been forward.

I do kinda like the porthole windows on the street side, but the flat chopped off back end ? Not so much. I seem to remember another member who was rear-ended by a truck after beautifully restoring the inside of his unit. He got a new trailer, but took the old one and made it into a pool house/summer house. His more attractive mod was to make a mini deck or porch on the back with a back door. Wish this guy had done that. Having fewer smaller windows makes sense in a half sized trailer, however I'd guess that the curb side had to be re-skinned because it got damaged along with the rear end - possibly hit and rolled on it's side? Aside from the ugly factor, I wouldn't consider this without completely examining the frame.

As for tongue weight - overall weight has got to be pretty low - and you could always get one of those wheels that attaches to the tongue to carry some of the tongue weight.

This is one of those modifications that is so ugly it's almost cute. Definitely would be noticed. (EVIL PAULA - would the IBT want THIS in the WBCCI? It's not a moho but it would be controversial.)

update.

It was an Airstream, I didnt ask what happened that made him cut the back off. He sent some interior pictures, I will post shortly. Today on my way home from work, heading 40 west, on the eastbound side, what do I see, the Airstream. By the time it got close enough that I knew it was it, I couldnt get a picture. Checked the ad, and sure enough, it sold! I will try to get the pictures to upload, they may be too big, sorry. It wouldnt let me change the size.

Wow, can someone find the link to that? I seem to have missed that one!

As for this little flat-backed trailer, I don't think it's all that bad. The flat back is a little jarring, when we're used to nice round ends. I'd like to see the inside. If it tows well, it looks to be in pretty nice shape for $4k.

Why not open a free account at Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and upload them there. You can then put just a link to the photos so that the folks here that are curious (like me!!) can have a look.

The next buyer should ask for a "half price" deal, split the difference. There could be "no end" to the comments. It only makes sense to meet the guy half way.Just tell him you're a little short too! Carry on,Richie Rich.
