What generation are you from?

After hearing that the first baby boomer applied for social security this past weekend, it got me thinking about how many baby boomers use this site. This is an informal poll, to find out what generation you are from.

Here is a list of the generation definitions I used in the poll:

• The Greatest Generation (1911-1924)
  This is the worldwide generation of Allies that served in World War II. This group overlaps with the G.I. Generation, the generation of Americans that fought and won World War II, later to become the Establishment, and the parents of children who would later become the Baby Boomers.
• The Silent Generation (1925 - 1945)
  This was the generation born between the two World Wars, who were too young to join the service when World War II started. Many had fathers who served in World War I. (1925-1945)
• The Baby Boomers (1946 - 1964)
  This was the generation born during or just after World War II, a time that included a 14-year increase in birthrate worldwide. Baby Boomers in their teen and college years were characteristically part of the 1960s counterculture, but later became more conservative, eventually gave birth to Generations X and Y.
• Generation X (1965 - 1980)
  Most of this generation are children of The Silent Generation. They tended to grow up with video games and MTV, and spent most of their teen years in the 1980s.
• Generation Y (1981-1995)
  This is also known as the Echo Boom, or Millennium Generation, grew up with many world-changing events including the rise of mass communication, the Internet, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Y Generation is know as a Culture War "battleground" with growing disagreements between conservative and liberal perspectives.

It is hard to believe that my brother is well down the road on collecting his OAP (Canadian Pension) and my late sister would be very late sixties by now. Holy crap, am I ever glad I'm almost the youngest in our family - the downside is I can see how bad I'm going to look when I get really old .

The world is evolving so quickly now it's at times an amazing thing to watch and participate in. In the past third world countries were somewhat behind but today they are light years behind what the industrialized nations have reached.

Being a boomer is, in my view, a very good thing. Now being a person with boomer knowledge, and being 40 again, would be an even better thing, but oh well...........ok, even having hair again would be nice for a while.

Hi, I was raised thinking that I was a Baby Boomer, but I'm not. I'm actually a World War II baby. Or as you stated "The Silent Generation". I missed being a Baby Boomer by 33 days. I will retire [in 46 days] November 30th, two days after my 62nd birthday. I have already signed up for Social Security and my first check will be for December, 2007 and will be sent to me on the last week of January, 2008.

We were born in '48 and '49. We're from the earlier part of the boomer generation.

I didn't realize that we were so quiet. Retired in 96 started drawing Social security in 97. Medicare in 2000 Airstream in 2003 I feel very blessed to be a part of this silver community. Retirement is wonderful. I have never been busier.

Hi, did I jump the gun on my benifits? First, Social Security. Second, Medicare. And Third, a new Airstream? Will I still get the Airstream if I already have one?

Good for you Bob. A great time to shut the work mode down - just prior to Christmas and the winter season.

Then you can spend some time honing your trailer parking skills . It looks like that trailer is at least an 1/8th of an inch more to the street side even with the door opening requirement.
