We are usually going to a "destination", such as Disney, a specific state park to see "something", like manatees. We frequent horse shows, and Jack Russell terrier events. We do a lot of "day trips", where we do not "camp", but use the A/S as a base, to keep food, drink and use it as a dressing room when we go snorkling at the springs.

as little as possible come night-time...
Our "big" camping trip for the past 14 yrs involves 10 days +/- on the Frio River w/ hubby's family, now up to 38 strong w/ children ages 15, 14, 13, 12, 12, 12, 11, 11, 11, 10, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 2, 2, 2. This may seem like a big deal to most of you quiet folk, but non-stop fun is the order of the day for this bunch of river rats. Kayaking, fishing, biking, hiking, and eating all have their place right behind "toobin' the Frio." Thank goodness all the kiddos love to read b/c we do enforce a daily 2 hr "siesta" where they must rest before taking off again @ 100 mph. It is also very cool to see the older ones taking care of the little ones on the river and at the camp. Night falls and all kids are bathed and put to bed: adults enjoy dominoes, cards, and stories of past camps. Only 26 days left...

In addition to pretty much all of the things listed there are a couple of others we never do at home that have become pretty standard when out with the trailer - watching old dusters and the evening cribbage game.

What we do when camping
Camping with an A/C is new to us. Normally we are in our truck camper pulling the horse trailer, this should give lots of clues to what we do with our spare time. I haven't figured out a safe way to pull the horses and Sylvia, so I think our A/C time will be a bit less hectic and more relaxed. We enjoy cards and board games of all sorts in the evening. We will be doing more walking than riding and perhaps more socializing since we will be staying in different kinds of campgrounds. I'm looking forward to the lazier travel style, but will definitely miss our boys . Anyone know if A/C makes a horse trailer with living quarters ?

What to do while Camping
I will second Chaplain Kent's activities of working on the trailer and visiting fellow campers. The A/S always seems to attract attention from people, and I have come to expect it. Doesn't matter where I am, someone wants to ask questions about the trailer. Lucky for me, I love to talk.

This might sound like non camping type activities, but I like to bring along creative work like watercolor painting, quilting or scrapbooking. And of course there's always the digital camera and laptop with Photoshop. I have an entire scrapbook album dedicated to Sparky's adventures. My airstream is like my art studio on wheels and many of the places I go and people I meet offer inspiration. I started getting interested in quilting last summer on Martha's Vinyard when a fellow camper in the site next to me had her sewing machine out on the picnic table working away. It looked relaxing so now I've become hooked on quilting too. Art supples are always on board in the trailer because you never know when you'll see something worth capturing on paper or canvas. Of course I don't always feel the urge to be creative, so a bottle of wine, family, and a campfire are all I need.

When I'm in the camping, my favorite hobby is reading Airstream life I've kept and smoking ( outside ) a cuban cigar while reading, with a cup of coffee;
It's a very rare and quiet moment i really appreciate. May be a simple moment but great moment.it's the paradise.

Just got back from our Victoria Day long weekend trip - one of the major activities (as always - how could I have forgotten!!) is answering questions about Airstreams.

We kind of got forced into early retirement but we're loving it.
My husband loves to take pictures and take little walks.
I love to take along some balls of yarn and sit out ond knit hats (I do this for a service project for my Church) that way I can visit with people that mosey by. I also read, do puzzles, things I can do in camp.
In the evening we can watch an old Western movie on the little DVD player.
Sometimes we'll just drive around and see the area.
A couple of years ago I had a stroke which means I have trouble walking. The talking has improved and some of the mobility but the walking and seeing is still a work in progress.
Going places in our AS has opened a whole new world for us. It's great.
I got my husband one of those gadgets that cranks the trailer up and down instread of him having to crank away...now isn't life grand.

I'm glad to see fly fishing well represented in this thread. If I didn't mention it, my lovely wife Sam would probably leave me (taking the Safari). I bicycle and do dog agility when camping. She fishes and fishes and fishes. We both eat.

When we use our Airstream it is our base for exploring new and different places to visit. It is our home away from home with all the comforts and none of the worries one has with hotel/motel beds/baths/etc.
We like to cook and enjoy not having to eat out all the time, although it is nice to sample regional fare too.
Arrrrgh! Winter is too long here, I want to go Streamin'.

We enjoy sitting around the campfire with a glass of wine, walking thru the campground and looking at others rigs (glad I'm not pulling one of THOSE!), having a glass of wine, bird watching, bug watching, enjoying a glass of wine, people watching, tree identification, did I mention a glass of wine?, etc. When we get home, the wife normally says,"I didn't do a darn thing for the last three days"....duh? What's your point!?

I do enjoy cooking and eating but really around the campfire in the evening. Breakfast and lunch come right out of the cabinets and fridge. I haven't really gotten much into elaborate campfire meals because quite frankly there are almost always only four of us and the other three want dogs and creations made in the pie makers. We do have a tripod and nice dutch oven but I've gotten so we only take it when camping with others who want to try out that kind of cooking. Most of the time it is nice to just live "simply".
We do bike, hike, and sit and read a little, too. And work really hard to keep an eye on kids at the playground.
