"Ask yourself why not a $40,000 rebate per person, indexed for inflation of course, if a $600 rebate is so good. Heck, why don't we give rebates equal to GDP, so that everyone who doesn't work and doesn't produce receives everything, and all those who do work and do produce receive nothing?"
While stepping carefully to avoid both economic and political debate, I feel compelled to say that I know a great many hard-working and productive people who are getting those checks. I'm sincerely happy for those who don't qualify, because it means that $300 to $600 per person doesn't make the difference between having health insurance for the next quarter or being able to fix your vehicle or even make your rent. Or in my case, which is slightly less dire, being able to give almost the entire amount to my veterinarian. ($25 is going toward that Tradewind raffle, though!) Not that the stimulus checks are a problem-solver, but that they do make a difference for quite a number of people. And pets. And based on this thread, they'll be doing quite a bit for Airstreams!

A Tire Pressure Monitor

Yesterday, a friend lost his 3rd tire within a month (2 failures yesterday) with substantial damage to his 32 Limited. He had just checked the tires at a rest stop . They were E-rated Greenball tires, fairly new. His trouble was partially that he didn't know he had lost a tire until his wife commented on a new noise. By that time, he was emitting a cloud of smoke and chunks of rubber.

That impelled me to order a tire monitoring system today. It may help me stop or slow before it gets to the damage point.

Normally, I would probably make too much to get the "rebate", but since my little accident last year left me with a gross unadjusted income of $8200.00, I qualify. Too bad I've gotta pay $$$, even after documented medical expenses of a quarter million...I had to hire an accountant to try to at least get the amount I owe down to $0. My head's swimming with "take the amount from line C, and move it to line 32A"...
So, my serious, not smart alecky answer would be "pay the accountant with my rebate".
But, that should be the subject of another (or three or four) thread (s)...

With our planned side trips, I figure it will cost us just under $1600 diesel forthe Bozeman round trip. Given the mountains and poking around Yellowstone, etc. I am estimating an average of 13 mpg instead of my usual better than 14 mpg mileage.

Sadly, this may be our last trip of this magnitude, although I would very much like to go to Madison next year.

The Mrs. and I got the big check (guess we're poor and don't know it.) So we got a disc brake upgrade kit and four new tires.

The check covered all but $175.00 of it and the beers and lunch for my buddy who I will help with the install.

We're choosing to view it as a gift from our Uncle Sam instead of what it really is. (Returning money that should not have been taken in the first place.)
