What a buy!

At the Region 9 rally, last week, I bought an old cast-aluminum Airstream jack plate in perfect condition for $1.

I about fell over when he named the price. I had a little twinge of conscience on that one. I had a $10 ready in my pocket and I wouldn't have balked at $20.

Airstream buys turn up when you least expect them. About three weeks ago we were shopping estate sales and decided to drop by a garage sale a mile from our house on the way back home. It was in back of a house in what appeared to be an workshop for the surrounding citrus groves. There was a 25 cent table where my wife was looking but I had already dismissed this garage sale as a lost cause; no tools. Gail asked me to come over and then became insistant when I didn't respond right away. She had found some type of lamp but it wasn't complete. The woman selling the stuff apologized, said some things had gotton separated, dug through some junk and then pulled out a part she though might go with the lamp.

Our find for the day; a Humpreys gas lamp, with wall base and original Humpreys globe for a quarter! It's going in our 1960 Traveler.

Okay, this doesn't go in our trailer, but we were out camping in it when it happened...
I was on my way back to the campground from the store and saw a yard sale.
I stopped in, and found a brand-new HP 17" flat panel monitor for $10. It seems they had gotten two of them with their order. I tried to talk them down to $5, but they wouldn't budge on the price. They did, however, throw in a pair of beach cruiser bicycles. Okay, I don't know what I'll do with 'em, but the price was right.
I got back to the campground, and started unloading the bikes. The person in the next campsite came over, and told me they had been looking for a pair of cruisers, so I sold them for $10...
Marie really likes her free monitor.
