What 80's movie? Dog fetching tools

I remember a scene from a movie that I think I saw back in the early 80's. It might have been Any Which Way But Loose, or Any Which Way You Can, though I have not been able to track down a clip of this particular scene.

The scene: The main character is a man working underneath a car and someone is standing by the car talking to him. The main character calls out to his dog something like, "Bring me a 9/16" box wrench." The dog runs over to a large tool box, noses around in there, and pulls out a wrench which he takes to the guy. The main character berates the dog, something like, "That's the open end wrench, I said the box wrench!" To which the dog, whines, scurries away, but then returns with the proper wrench.

I don't think the dog did anything else cool in the rest of the movie. Might have been the only scene it was in.

Thanks for reading my post. If you have a link for this movie clip, please post it.

Both are movies featuring Clint Eastwood and a gorilla or monkey. I rewatched Any Which Way But Loose recently, and I don't think your dog is in that one.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000):
In the scene where the Grinch is building his sleigh, his dog Max gets him a wrench from the toolbox. The Grinch yells ""I asked for 3/4, not 5/8. Stay focused!".

Just wondering if you have had any further recollection of the movie name and cast. I have a feeling that you were thinking of a movie other then The Grinch . . . posted earlier.

Thanks,

Peter

The Grinch scene was good, but the movie in question is older than that. Late 70's or early 80's.

My memory is good, but not that good. Google is what got me the Grinch quote.
Do you have any more details? Actors? Plot?

CWF,

That solves the problem of the dog bringing the wrong wrench, but I wouldn't want to load that poor wiener dog down with the large C-clamp I use for brake jobs.
