we have the JOY ( NOT) of owning a small business.. so I stood at work today waiting for all of the "normal" people who had a holiday to come in and buy our wonderful antiques.
the problem was that no one bothered to WAke UP today and the streets of Rockford were DEAD!!
I had a loooong wait!
But I did get a lot of work done.. I cleaned the loading dock and straigthened out the floor to ceiling stock shelves, and it looks great! And finally people started to come in, after noon.
I am exhausted, tired of work, (only 5 more days to go this week) and ready to go to the MIdwest Rally.
I am so glad we're going one day early!@

As luck would have it my 2-week vacation spanned the weeks before and after Memorial Day.
In the interest of sanity we hid out at my mother in-laws over the 3-day weekend. Tomorrow we're headed for Laughlin, NV then up the east side of the Sierras and home.

Yesterday, we did a double first........first time to ride in a limo.....first time to tour Oregon wineries......you guessed it.....in a limo. A group of our friends went in to rent a limo and visited 5 of Oregon's 341 wineries. I learned the fine art of tasting.......don't leave the bar......just stand and sip, rinse, and try another and sip.....you get the drift. Each winery has at least 8 varieties to try, some charge fees, and some do not. We were about 60 miles from the ones we visited, and averaged about 15 minutes drive between them. All I can say is that Oregon is on the World map when it comes to the Pinots, Chardonnays, and Gris. They were incredible! And of course the big advantage of the limo is that everyone could partake in the tasting (no need for a designated driver).
Of course we supported the wineries by purchasing some of their vintages.....our cache in the trunk.
Here are some pics...........that's me and my squeeze on the left!
Hi Jim and Cheryl, Looks like you two had a great time ! We do have a number of really good wineries here eh ? I have never done the Limo ride to the wineries, We always had a DD. Good thing too !
Hi Chris, Yes it looks like we are catching up with you in gas prices. If I had my big pickup over there I couldn't afford to drive it ! It has actually gone down in price over here just a bit. The diesel in the Pacific NW is still really high, however. I think it is still around $2.60 a gal.
Chris.....I viewed the pics of your Caravel.......fantastic.......you know how to do it right.........little will they know you put a second coat of POR on the frame. Looking forward to seeing it at Trout Lake! As to the wine tour.....it was great......I will definitely do it again. I did get a little s*#^- faced toward the end.......but I do remember some really fine wines!
Today we hosted a "Twinky Party" for our friends who do not know what an Airstream is! We BBQ'd some brats and made some salads, parked the "Twinky" outside her storage building (which I own), and gave tours and shared experiences we've had with other AS'ers. We're planning a big trip to Glacier starting 6/5, and then on to Edmonton, AB, then to Jasper NP, then to Banff, and back to Corvallis. Will take 14+ days......but still plan to make Trout Lake
Hi Jim, Yes when you go wine tasting it does seem to catch up with you doesn't it. ;-) Looking forward to seeing you up in Troutlake. I will have the Caravel in tow this time. It may not be completely finished but done enough to camp in. A twinkie party thats too funny ! lol. Looks like you had a really great weekend. You mean there are people that don't know what an Airstream is ?! Thanks for the compliment on my work. I could use all the encouragement I can get !
and our own house is a bigger baby than yours.. a 1923 Sears Bungalow :-)
Ain;'t life grand .:-)
The Sears houses were the forerunner of the Manufactured Home (AKA mobile home). All the lumber and materials were loaded into a boxcar, and sent to the rail siding nearest your homesite for assembly. It is kind of like a grand uncle to the Airstream, only not as portable...
Hi Chris....
Yea it's kinda gettin harder 4 lots of Guys with the Big trucks I guess, works out abt £1-65 per UK Gall, & I kn wen U Guys start haulin Yr Streamers, a gallon don't go 2 far... OK a TANK full don't go 2 far...( sigh ! ) & it aint like U go 40 - 100 miles from home, U GO Thousands.... My lttl car wiv it's 1300cc engine only does abt 36 mpg...usin petrol, now My Pal runs a JEEP 3.7 ltr Diesel turbo, & he gets 34 mpg...runnin local, he reccons abt 42 on a long run, & vats a joke over here as we always got the motorways dug-up, or jus coned off 4 the fun of it, We always get stuffed at bank holidays, on 1 motorway the queue was 16 miles at stand still...good job I had bttr fins 2 do...LOL than 2 sit in vat...
