We want a petit yacht.

Hi, we want to be a little more adventurous and buy something for the water. [lake] I sink like a rock, so a kayak or canoe is out. So we were thinking about buying a small, aluminum, row boat to carry on top of my Lincoln. Are aluminum row boats obsolete? So far my searches have not been too good. Where can I find a new aluminum row boat and what size would work for two people and fit on top of my Lincoln? Help me if you can.

check out Tracker boats from Bass Pro shop or, Cabelas for aluminum, and check out the Portaboat, this is a fold-up made of polypropolene and and finally the inflatables by Sea Eagle. I have the Porta-boat that is 14 ft and use a 6 hp and had it on the mighty Mississippi. This boat comes in a 8.10.12 and 14 ft. mike

Grumman Sport Boat

If you really mean "rowboat"--meaning you plan to row it, not use an outboard motor--there aren't many being mass produced today. One nice aluminum one is the Grumman Sport Boat, essentially a broad beam square stern canoe with oarlocks. Cartopped on your tow vehicle it would go nicely with your Airstream.

Marathon Boat Group

Good luck,

Bob;

Go to clcboats.com. There you will find a few wonderful kit wood boats. They have a great selection. Mill Creek 16, a new Dory, the Skerry, just to name a few.
Check out the weight difference.

AS AN ADDED BONUS- Chesapeake Light Craft will be in Newport Beach, just south of you. On 5 Sept, check out their web site. You can paddle their stuff for free and see what great designs are available.

I know you are more than capable of putting one of these together,
We can talk about it in a few weeks at the Jackson Forum Rally.

P.S. I've been known to build boats for other folks. :+]

The beauty of varnished wood next to an airstream totally rocks. An aluminum fishing boat is just that. My professional opinion..

We started out with the aluminum and ended up with an inflatable with wood floorboards.
