Visited the trailer in storage

Got a chance to swing by the trailer in storage today. DW had cleaned the linoleum when we put it away this season and I hadn't seen it since. Just walking in to it - man - what a rush! Out little rolling home on wheels!

Is it just us?

If you store your trailer over the winter months, do you visit it? Do you talk to it? Do you hang out in it for a few hours? How do you interact with your trailer during those months you're not actively camping?

I have a 12 month camping season. Mine sits in the front yard stocked and ready to go. Heading out Monday for two weeks on the Redneck Riviera.

So I can look at it whenever I'm in the back yard, but sometimes quite a while will go by since the last time I went inside. When it occurs to me, I'll find the keys and pay a visit to check that the solar is keeping the batteries charged up. It always feels a little strange to go in when it's so cold in there and everything looks exactly the same as it did weeks or months before when I put it away. I kind of feel like it is hibernating, and I should just quietly do my checks and then leave without bothering it too much.

We don't have a TV in the house, so we went out there to watch the presidential debates. We warmed it up inside, got the TV going, sprawled on the sofas, had some wine and it felt just like it does when we're away on a trip someplace.

Ours sits in our yard also. Just love to look out and see it. Very often I will go out to it with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine for quiet time. Her name is Baby. I love my "Baby".

Mine is also in the backyard with a power outlet next to it. I go out a time or two each winter and exercise the furnace while watching television.

Mine spends it's idle time behind the house with full hook ups. I too frequently spend time in my home away from home at home.

Our trailer goes to warehouse storage at the end of October when we winterize. By Thanksgiving, batteries are pulled and stabilizers lowered. From December to March, I go by about once a week. Most of the time to just a five minute wellness check. When we get a warm weekend day in the spring, I go and hangout. I take my lunch, watch a game, and even take a nap...all while parked in storage. Trailer doesn't hit the road until we have had a good rain to clear the road salts. Usually that is mid to late April. Season in Illinois very different than when we lived in Texas.

I check it once a week. She is plugged in at our storage facility 110v, for keeping the batteries charged, we have solar but the clouds and snow where we live prevent adequate charging and we pay only $5.00 extra a month. This also allows us to turn on the Alde heating system and fridge if we plan to leave for the winter, which by the way we were scheduled to leave today for three months in FL. But despite being all packed, truck ready yesterday we discovered a lump on one of our dogs toe area. Needle aspiration, a week waiting on pathology, etc we cancelled. Unloaded last night and will wait for results and then make a decision. Place we had and have reservations at could not have been more accommodating, when I told them the situation they suggested we move the reservation out and they would pray for a negative outcome.

Wish everyone a Happy New Year.

Bud

Mine is right outside the door in the driveway under a Shelterlogic. It's plugged in and ready for me to spend a night in it on a whim. I keep a small portable heater on in the winter and it's set at 60 degrees so I don't have to wait long for it to get warmer when I want it to. I love to open up the curtains on the front end, lay in bed and read while the snow is falling outside or set up the dinette area as a big sofa, wrap up in a blanket and watch a movie. I take the dog out there with me too.....it's actually HIS Airstream

Ours is in an open, covered storage facility. I hook up and tow it around every once in awhile if there's no salt (we sometimes have rain in winter that washes the road salt away until the next snow). A also hook up my truck and charge the batteries, run the furnace, etc. It's ready to go when we are!

You're registered as in New England; so take it out! There's some good all-year private campgrounds up in Maine; one I believe up in the Allagash.

Ah - what a great dream! A non-trailer constraint is my job. I take pretty much all my vacation time in the summer to maximize New England camping weather. Someday - I will actually be retired and DW and I plan a year - possibly two - full time traveling around this amazing continent....

For now - I just swing by the trailer in storage and dream every now and then...living the other stories here - they help 😀

I have not seen ours since thanksgiving, give or take.

I was going to visit it but Portland got hammered by ice and snow, then Christmas, and now we are down in Palm Desert sans AS at my Moms. In a week or two, I hope to go check on it.

We just got ours and it's parked 15 miles away until we build a new storage garage for it later this year. My wife thinks I'm nuts as I keep making excuses to go see it. Stupid homeowners association rules limits how long I can have it parked in drive way, and we've been called twice on it in less than a month.

Thx

Heading to the Tin Goat this weekend to do some maintenance - replacing the switches in the Barker jack and replacing the fan knobs in both Fantastic Fans (I broke one this season). I can’t WAIT to spend a few hours with the Goat!

God I miss camping!!!!

This spring I’m also planning on new tires (GYEs) for the Goat and a new Leer cap for the Freedom Machine. While I LOVE the Undercover hard tonneau, I just need more storage space in the bed of the truck.

Anyone seeing their winterized, parked baby soon??

God I miss camping......

I’m lucky enough to see mine everyday. She’s parked 50’ from my house.
I understand your excitement. I love mine being so close.

Happy for you and jealous! Can’t park ours at the house and we bought our house 5 years before we became Airstreamers. Would have gone elsewhere had we owned the Tin Goat then!

Enjoy!!
