Going full time from my isolated Tennessee cabin, I am being hauled back into civilization with a smartphone, hotspot technology, and data plans. It was a true delight to turn in my company iPhone in 2012 for a dumb phone. Smelled like freedom.
So a heads up to those walking into the local Verizon store.
- They offer a military discount. Bring in a copy of your DD-214 or a valid veteran's ID card.
- Apple iPhones are not capable of downloading your contacts from non-Apple phones. Be prepared for manual data transfer. Once logging into my Apple ITunes account, the phone immediately downloaded all my business contacts and others in my life from 2012. Scary.
- You can make an appointment online to your local store - saves the hassle of lines.
- Be aware of the location tracking service that seems to apply to every application. If you make use of Siri, it is listening in on your conversations all the time.
Sigh. I am now wired, synched to my truck's hands-free bluetooth, with more processing power than most spacecraft. You can run, but you can't hide.
