It really looks like a good time to take a vacation to the Smokey Mountains for anybody along the Gulf Cost.
Seriously. If you can take the time off, it's a lot better to go, and take your Airstream, now, rather than wait till the last second, and getting stuck.
Even if absolutely nothing happens, it can be a fun vacation.

The best tropical weather site is "Mike's weather page" and he takes all the models from every source and puts them on one page. Then you can make your own informed decision and not rely on the "We could all die" hype often found on local TV.

Here in west central Florida, it's been hot and rainy every afternoon, so I'm hoping Gordon takes some of the moisture with it.
I also go to YouTube and check the live cams in Key West. Right now it looks partly cloudy in Mallory Square.
Rainy and breezy in Miami

This radar loop gives a good overview of Gordon's progress as it clears Florida's west coast, and heads for New Orleans.

The center does not look too well organized at this time IMO.

Gordon's projected path continues to center on New Orleans, which puts the dangerous NE quadrant's winds blowing directly onshore from Gulfport MS to Panama City FL, where the highest storm surge is likely. That part of the coast also took a direct hit last year in a couple of the hurricanes. Most of the oil drilling action is to the west of Gordon's path as I recall.

PS -- 8:13 AM EDT:
The graphs in the last post are spiking up strongly [they update in real time]. I will look for another buoy to the north and west to track Gordon's arrival on the coast. The moving radar in Post #6 shows the outer heavy rain bands hitting the coast.
Stay safe!

We are watching the progress of Gordon here in Central Time Florida. It is gray and breezy here this morning.
If Gordon follows the predicted path, we should be OK.

It looks that way, Brian. The earlier charts seem to show the winds topping out, and the Pensacola Airport is showing fairly moderate conditions IMO.

The right columns will be interesting to follow for the cumulative precipitation.

Buoy 42012 44 NM SE of Mobile AL:
https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_pa...?station=42012
. . . had recent high winds of 42 knots and gusts of 56 knots, and air pressure of ~29.78 inches:
The easterly winds at Pensacola Airport [linked in Post #12] seem to have peaked already IMO, and the total precipitation is about 0.5" so far.
Gordon has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and is forecast to become a Depression by the morning.

NBC news just interviewed the owner of what looked to me like a 23fb in a permenant park situation who was using tie straps from tongue to ground anchors and going to ride it out.

OTRA, Do you work for the weather channel? Your graphs, websites, knowledge of weather is amazing. If you had a Atlanta address, I would swear you were meteorologist Jim Cantore. Makes me wonder if their are any celebrities posting on the forums. Thanks for the heads up on hurricane activity OTRA.

Thanks.
No, just an average citizen with a life-long interest in weather . . . and a more recent fascination with the scope of information available online.
Some would add . . . "and too much free time on your hands!"

Good stuff here. I like the weather patterns. I grew up in SE Louisiana and been through some tough storms. Messaged my brother this morning and asked if they had a breezy night. He said “not bad. Feels good”. Reminds me of the past when being in the NW side of the storm equaled a rare north and dry / cooler wind.
