Trailer Theft-deterrent ideas

With the theft of several trailers from our members, it might be interesting to see pics and read about what YOU do to keep your trailer safe from those who'd like to take it from you!

At my old home, I drilled a hole into the concrete and mounted a removable 2" steel post that padlocked in place to a mount cemented into the hole. I'd position the trailer so the post came up through the triangle of the forward section. Anyone wanting to steal that work trailer would have to lift 600 lbs two feet higher.

I painted it bright yellow and put black/yellow striped caution tape on it, so *I* wouldn't forget it was there!

I like that idea Dave! An idea i just came up with, IF you have an electric tongue jack. Raise it ALL THE way up and leave it there...either then remove the battery and/or have a hidden switch that runs power to the jack....

Besides not having your AS level, anyone having a manual crank could crank the AS down. I use a keyed lock in the ball receiver on the tongue. Be safe not sorry.

Universal Boot (www.universalboot.com)

This is what we use (same as used by many police and city parking enforcement agencies). Please note that it is heavy, cumbersome to install and expensive; but it's a big visual deterrent and has worked so far.

Note: At one KOA, when we returned to our spot in the evening, an adjacent camper came over to ask us what we had done to get our trailer booted by the campground management.

I remove the pin holding the coupler unit together. Without the guts of the coupler, it won't go far. I also cable through the wheels like a wheel lock.
