Tracking history

Does anyone know how to dig up the history of ownership of a vintage trailer? I don't see any evidence of red letters on the trailer, so that won't help.
I traced my 4 Runner's history through CarFax before I bought it. Is there anything similar to that for Airstreams?

Greetings Diana!

So far as I have been able to learn, little information related to your quest will be available from either Airstream or WBCCI even if there were numbers on your trailer. The one possibility that might be available to you would be a title search via your local DMV. In Illinois this was possible via the local currency exchanges for a modest fee - - the search would list all owners of record for a vehicle with a particular serial number - - I will admit that it has been several years since I accessed the service so can't relate current availability or cost (and it would most certainly vary by state). I don't know if this would be possible in California, but it could be. The limitation, at least in Illinois, was that the search would dead end at the point at which the vehicle was brought into the state - - in Illinois, I was given the last state of registration prior to being registered in Illinois.

Good luck with your search!

Kevin

Diana, I don't know if it's available in CA but here in MI we can do a 'title search' to find the PO's of a vehicle (for a fee of course)
through our local state licensing bureau. They are Secretary of State offices here and have the forms on hand.

Thanks! Looks like I have some homework to do. California is pretty strict about the information you can get from the DMV. Years ago the stalker of a TV personality was able to look up her home address through DMV records and killed her.

When I bought the trailer it had what looked like the original license plate frame with an LA area RV dealer. I'll let you know what I can find out.
