Is there a more current article then this? It is dated April 3, 2007. Three years is a long time in this ever changing world.

I don't necessarily believe that a Hummer id 'greener' that a Prius, but I do believe that a lot of the Prius claims are pure hype. When you consider the battery manufacture, transportation, and disposal, the Prius is probably not nearly as green as a Toyota Corolla or Chevy Cobalt. That being said, I really like Doorgunner's turd comment.

Billtex,
I can understand your concerns trying to learn and understand the Pirus's nuances if you paid as much attention to driving the Prius as you did to reading and quoting my post. Apparently you missed the part about me actually driving one when you wondered if my comments were from a driving experience. I drove it and liked it. Some aspects are a little different like the engine starting and stopping at will with it's own mind but I could easily get used to that. What is a shame is that American technology is all thru that car we just did not want to build and market it. So we let the Japaneese build it and market it very successfuly and all the jobs and exported money that go along with it. Who is exporting jobs overseas, it is us our own car manufacturers. Dodge pickups were greatly improved and updated by the Germans during the last decade and now made in Mexico When are we going to get back to building the best, again?

I drove a Prius about 50 miles once and found it very easy to drive. Perhaps I am more adaptable than others to the unconventional. When I drive a car I am unfamiliar with, I spend a little time seeing where the controls are.

So far as brake override goes, it could also be a problem when parked on a steep hill with a car parked too close behind you. A kill switch for the fuel pump would be better than a brake override, but won't happen because it's cheaper to activate software in the computer. Then you can use the emergency brake to prevent roll back, but the foot operated emergency brakes in Toyotas are hard to control except they're either all on or all off.

it might just be me but i'd try anything in a runaway vehicle at 94 MPH!

that is, unless it had a button for the nitrous. ;-)

as for the green/not green issues, please start a new thread somewhere.

it could be...

and aliens could be using joy sticks to control ALL yotas from outer space.

imagining imaginary problems to a real fix for the real problem, is really imaginative ...

repeat after me....

" the aroma from the turd is roasted coffee with earthy overtones "...

"hill assist" systems have LONG been used on manual tranny cars...

ya think they don't exist for AUTOMAT shifters?

having parked on many hills pointed UPwards or down and in tight quarters which just happened to be near waters edge...

there are no REAL issues/impediments/problems or rolling CRASHez as a result of incorporating brakekillthrottle technology.

it's been in use for a long time on millions of cars.

and the only real issue is that one cannot BURN rubber off the line vis a vis thunder road.

btw is yota still running those commercials with the tundra jetting toward a CLIFF, only to be halted by the massive brakes?

i don't think so...

cheers

Even Kermit sings that it is not easy being green.

But if it is this much of a reach for you to balance to Hummer comparisons to so called "Prius Hype" in one sentence sounds like you have an over active skeptic gland.

Maybe doorgunner can add a comment on how to relieve pressure on this gland. He seems to know something about excretions.

Are these jokes funny yet?

No need too...

Please read my post....

I never insinuated it was the truth...

It took less than 2 min on the interweb to find a statement that was diametrically opposed to your belief.

The truth is what one believes it is...

I'm not going to change your mind...and I have no intention of trying.

..sounds like someone is a bit overly sensitive about their perceptions of 'green' not being as 'green' as theyd like !

Sooo.....because I made a comment about gas guzzlers piloted by soccer moms talking on their cell phone, you decided it was a good idea to provide this debunked article as a way to provide a fair and balanced discussion on the Toyota bash flash of the day thread?

It took two minutes to find one the world wide web!

Probably more time then the author of this fine piece of investigative journalism took to research the garbage you help contribute here.

So I will keep it in mind next time I am reading a post that you have contributed to.....It's not your thoughts, opinions, advice, or learned position about the subject at hand.

Just something you found on the that internet.....thing.

Time for a review. This is per my memory

1. Toyota's had some alleged acceleration issues since around y2k
1.a hired former NHTSA person to negotiate with NHTSA
1.b has had "black box" but only one reader in CONUS
1.c State Farm, in looking over actuarial data, asked NHTSA if something wasn't right with Toyota

2. Toyota denied having any issues until late last year
2.a Blamed it on floormats until a Lexus was pulled from a pond with the floormats in the trunk
2.b blamed it on one pedal supplier
2.c DOT exec flew to Japan to tell Toyota to make a recall
2.d recall expands to Prius
2.e Japan government tells Toyota to recall Prius for braking problems

3. Damage recovery - roughly where we are now
3.a lots of apparently contradictory information from both Toyota and other drivers.
3.b some drivers' reports may be false
(it therefore follows) 3.c some Toyota claims may be false

Does that seem about where we are now? There may be new discoveries, but they may be weeks away.

In the meantime, the Tundra's recall for frame rust reaches out to another 30 states.

As stated before, I have owned a Toyota, and consider the brand's chief fault to be a mortifying dullness. It's a big world, though, and others may (ack, cough) like the look.

ditto that observation.

NOW finally somethin' about the yota is exciting (it's like they added a SUPER spin cycle to the washin' machine models)

the review is good, but here's todays issues...

1. a T'basher posts...

1.1. a T'lover bashes the T'basher with NOTHING related to the T'crashin' issues...

1.1.a. soccer mom, hummin', polutin' and yakkin' got nothing 2 do with nothin' in dis thread ...

1.1.a.z. but maybe that's just an attempt to keep folks from see'n those nascar tuned preUS pace cars rollin' by...

1.1.a.z.x. RC' attempts to rattle the T'lovers neurons back to a more neutral field...

666.0 while we FINALLY get some good humor thanks to dg'z turdification of things.

and the hijack'n continues...

2. mean while at the local auto show last weekend NO one was stopping at the yota display...

2.b. there were LOTs of folks looking, but 4 some reason they kept zooooom'n past the rather dull cars in the display ...

cheers

I drove the Tundra about 50 miles today and it was really dull. I kept waiting to take off to the moon or Mars, but nothing happened.

I bought this thing because I wanted to go WARP 9.5. That's what the salesman told me it could do.

Still waiting for the Toyota Enterprise model.

..Ive always thought of the Prius as the 'yellow livestrong bracelet' of the automotive world...its somethign to 'feel good about' while not actually accomplishing anything... I KNOW that the ones Ive been behind we NOT unintentionally accelerating...They tend to impede traffic on 2 lane highways to the point of causing more polution than they are saving...

Hi, Gene your Toyota won't act up because it knows, that you know, what to do in case, it does act up. You know, the pot never boils when you watch it.
