Smile total lunar eclipse

Earthlings are about to be treated to a total lunar eclipse, just in time for Halloween.

For more than an hour Wednesday night, the moon will be covered entirely by Earth's shadow and resemble a glowing pumpkin.

Unfortunately total lunar eclipses around here always seem to be accompanied by total cloud cover. I don't think we'll be getting a peek at this one either. They are fun to watch if you get a chance.

Eclipse during Series Game-

For the first time ever, this lunar eclipse will be during a World Series game! I wonder what kind of effect this will have on the players and/or fans........ I for one, am convinced of the effect a full moon on folks, and this has been a pretty unusual series as it is.

GO SOX!

I hope we get to see it. It's cloudy this morning but may clear off this evening! The last one that I really remember, I was a child. We constructed and flew a box kite and lit off a few firecrackers in honor of the moon's orange face.

Mostly clear skies here for tonight. I may have to give the kids coffee to keep them awake for it!

I just took the dogs outside, and imagine my surprise when I looked up and saw the clouds had parted and the big orange moon was hanging over the house - what a sight!

I live on the West Coast so am only an "interested" Red Sox fan (with a next-door neighbor born and raised in Boston) - but;

1. twice in the Yankee series the games were winding down and the cameraman focused on the stadium clock - midnight - I could hear the gong going off on the Yankees season
2. tonight, as the Sox were winding down their 4 game sweep in St. Louis, the moon, earth, and sun were playing hide and seek

Moral of the Story:

Halloween came early, and the Red Sox went home with all the candy!

Great eclipse - greater post-season of baseball

It is now called the Series Eclipse. I didn't take this photo, came from the space.com web site...

Woo-hoo jpurdy!! I'm with ya.

Astronomy Picture of the Day usually is my home page. They had a nice photo of the eclipse today and always have good 'splains.

Go to: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap041029.html

Hmmm... I'll get this linked better soon.
