Tornadoes almost wiped us out today.

The tornadoes hit us hard in North Alabama today. We use to have a beautiful yard with some really nice big oaks in the back yard. They are all gone as well as most of the big trees in our yard. We have three acres and it is a mess. The good news is that no one got hurt and the house has minor damage. The Airstream was relatively untouched. There was a slight dent on one end cap but it sat there and did not budge. I lost a shed and the wind rolled an old van that was in the yard. Fences are down and it is a mess. We were lucky it was not worse. I hope the rest of the folks had a better day than I.

Sorry about the trees - those will take 20 years to start replacing - but so glad your house and Airstream made it through without major problems. I hope the storm center has now passed.

A miss IS as good as a mile. I hope all of your family and friends were as lucky.

Oh yeah, storms just passed here an hour or so ago, no damage, count our blessings. Glad you are OK - all that matters. The rest is replaceable.

Sorry to hear it. It has been another heck of a day for tornadoes. We had warnings here and some touched down nearby, but we dodged the bullet.

About your oak trees--were they uprooted, broken off, or what? Reason I ask is that I was there for the tornado that wiped out Xenia, Ohio in 1974. The crowns were ripped off the tall oak trees in the city park but the trunks held. They looked funny but the arborists said to leave them alone--with the trunk and root system intact they would regrow the crowns. They did--after about 5 years you wouldn't know they had been damaged. Possibly a ray of hope for you.

Good to hear no one was harmed, Perry. I hope we hear from au-ee (Steve) soon - he is in the Athens area and took a hit last April.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. The street side awning was ripped off the trailer and was just hanging by the bars but it was intact and did not cause any other damage. Now if I can just get water to the house tomorrow and get that tree off the house.

Glad to hear that most everything survived for you.
Was thinking of all the airstreamers across the country today. Praying that they came thru.

Glad no one was hurt. We don't have this weather problem, only earthquakes. I am amazed by the amount of devestation and loss of life this area has had to endure. My heart goes out to all of you.

Nice to hear you are safe. Those poor trees uprooted are fire wood. Looks like you won't run out for a while. See the old Gravely didnt move.Looks like its holdin up whats left of the shed.
What a mess. That will keep ya busy fer a minute.
Glad you are ok.

The shed had both my generators in it. With the help of a neighbor we got them out and I got power back. I am going to work on water today. The Gravely started right up. My dirt bikes were in the same shed and by big chain saw. I got the saw out, one dirt bike and two honda 70's are still in the rubble :-).

Perry,

Sad to hear the news, glad there were no injuries. Prayers sent.

Sure is sad seeing all the folks who've lost everything.

The storms blowing thru here today, no twisters just a steady 70mph wind coming off Lake Erie. We're 35yds from the water and behind a seawall so we don't expect any water damage, but the wind is the big worry. Stuff secured as well as possible, we be 'kinda used to it.

Bob

Prayers for those that were in harms way and to the folk who have been affected. I'm sure others would be out here to give us an update of their status, if possible.
