Thoroughbreds and Redheads at Keeneland!

Are there any Maker's Mark Ambassadors out there?

Just got my invitation to the annual Thoroughbreds and Redheads at Keeneland on April 11th. I'm excited to finally make it this year, and thinking about hauling down the Airstream, staying at the Kentucky Horse Park campground. What a great shakedown trip, huh?

So if there are any Maker's Mark Ambassadors camping in the Lexington area for the festivities let me know. It would be great to meet up with (in my humble opinion) the coolest people in the world; Maker's Mark drinking 'streamers!

OK , I'm curious. But I do not understand if this is a horse race or an annual get together of people with red hair? Drinking travel trailer owners, yes.

Tell us more? and what is Save Rudy?

I'm an Ambassador!

I'm a proud Maker's Mark Ambassador, but unfortunately live a bit too far away to make it for Thoroughbreds & Redheads. Please take lots of pictures and tell us all about it (and say "hi" to my barrel - I think it's in year 2 now ).

Hey Gary,

Thanks for asking! Let me put on my offical Maker's Mark Ambassador hat here. Thoroghbreds and Redheads is a horse race, and an annual get together of people who love Maker's Mark. The "redhead" comes in because of the red wax used to seal each bottle of Maker's. An Ambassador is simply someone who agrees to spread the word about the world's best bourbon. You sign up, and get free stuff. Pretty cool!

As I understand it, Save Rudy is the result of a rather unfortunate incident at a Christmas in July rally where a few ruffians made off with site decorations. The rally goers were able to catch the perps, though, so all ended well. I wasn't part of the team that year, but received the "honorary" designation by being in the right place at the right time (read: around a campfire about 3:00 am).

Cheers!
Renee

Hiya Mel!

Good to meet a fellow Ambassador! I'll be sure to take lots of photos and post them when we return (geez, it seems like forever away). Congrats on your barrel, mine is only in year one. Five years to go.........

Renee,
Sounds like fun. Is there a website or other place to check out the details?
I will hunt around the web and take a look. How far away is the campground from the track?
Thanks
Gary

Hey Gary,
The first thing to do is get yourself signed up as MM Ambassador. You can do that on their site Makers Mark. Once you're signed up as an Ambassador, go to this link for information on the weekend's festivities: Maker's Mark - Thoroughbreds and Redheads. You'll need a login and password to get into the site, but you'll receive those when you sign up as an Ambassador. You'll find information on the race, the afterparty in downtown Lexington and the Ambassador Homecoming at the Maker's Mark Distillery on Saturday.

The campground is about 13 miles from the race track. It's a bit farther to the Distillery on Saturday (about 1.5 hours - but well, well worth the journey). Here's a link to the campground information: Welcome to the Kentucky Horse Park. I've never camped there before, but took a tour of the park a few years ago. Even if you're not into horse racing, it's still impressive.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Renee
