There and Back Again:)

We have just returned from our first campout with our '95 30' Limited and our new tow vehicle. This was our first time staying in the lower campground at Bennett Springs State Park where full hook ups are located. We wanted to test out all systems, and we did, but we must have provided some entertainment to the units camped around us! Pulling was a pleasure, just as all who advised us about our Duramax/A told us it would be. Thanks again to the Forum! We ran into several funny episodes as we ran "Gypsy" through her paces. She knew what she was supposed to do, and we learned as we went along. Several pages of our AS owners manual are now flagged, but we could find nothing from ZipDee for setting up the awning. Having spied a 72 Overlander in one of the upper campgrounds on a cruise through, we thought we'd go introduce ourselves and ask for instructions on awning set up. We did, and discovered the owner was locked out, keys lost. Max mentioned that we had our key and that for a previous SOB we owned, the key would unlock nearly anything, so he offered ours to try. Sure enough, it unlocked it, but then, the owner locked it again to be sure, and it would NOT unlock-dead bolt locked. We left him our key since we had another, he planned to enter through the open(thank goodness!) back window, we left and began to set up our awning. We then discovered WE were locked out because our extra set was INSIDE our AS. Back up the hill to get our original key to find our new friend outside his unlocked trailer, having found his keys inside! Back down again, on with the awning set up (we are NOT very techy as you can see), turned around, and our upper campground friend drove up to show us through the mechanics. Great! We now knew the procedure, we had shade, and we both had unlocked AS's. Later. . .time to take the awning down before leaving to fish. We began, only to find the awning would not roll up. Tried, tried again. Neighbor to the right came over to help. We kept unrolling, rolling, when I pointed out new cutting marks on the metal roll up mechanism. After a few more ins and outs, a metal piece fell out Scary. But then, the canopy worked perfectly! Good, thanked this neighbor. He pulled out yesterday. Today, breaking up camp, ready to take down the canopy again, we discovered our awning tool was missing-gone! I think our helpful neighbor by mistake dropped it in with his gear. Ironic because he had been talking about having a cooler missing after a stop for gas along the way. Wouldn't you know, another AS neighbor a few sites from ours, saw me climbing a ladder to reach the mechanisms, stopped to ask the problem, disappeared, and returned with an awning tool, "just an extra one I have. Keep it and enjoy your AS!" That was just the awning experience! Great trip. These 4 days made us seem as relaxed as if we'd had a major trip-Airstreaming is good for all that ails you! Too long a post, but had to share

We came THIS CLOSE to being there with you! We were all set to go to Bennet Springs also when the thought intruded that it was Mother's day. So we got out mothers and sole remaining grandmother together instead.

You have me beat on the awning. In three years of 'streamin we've never used ours once.
