The new Reese add

Has anyone seen the Reese add on the back cover of the new Airstreamer? Well, I found it interesting for a few reasons. First off, the photo was taken on Highway 128 about 15 miles west of Moab,UT. I know because the town of Castle Valley (where I have property and two AS's) is just beyond the mesa on the right. What's interesting about the photo is #1) that isn't the real road and guard rails, it's an import, and #2) the river (the Colorado) is on the wrong side of the road, and perhaps less interesting #3) when Reese soliciting us for photos (last Fall?), I sent them the one below, which was taken in the same canyon but less than a mile back. Needless to say, the Airstream in their photo is much prettier than mine. My apologies to those who don't have a copy of the magazine...I'm unable to scan the add. - Roy

Looks like they had all kinds of Photoshop fun on this ad. I'd like to see a rig with any appreciable length make that turn coming from the opposite direction without using at least half of the oncoming lane!
"Don't be fooled by imitations"? Looks like a whole lot was "imitated" in this ad!

The Reese product is very good, however.

When I get to Castle Valley at the end of the month, I'll take a picture from approximately the same spot and post it side by side with the add . . . I wonder what Herb Spies, the owner of the Globetrotter and supplier of the photo, thinks about the add. I'll bet he did a double-take when he saw it.

Pretty cool Roy

That will be a great set of pictures for your album or display in your Airstream!

This is how all ads are done. Every last one is retouched, airbrushed, the blemishes glossed over, and often purely created from either combining many different photos, or from nothing at all (3D software)! At a glance though... which is how magazine ads are really intended to be viewed... it works like a charm, giving us an inspiring view of someplace we might like to go, and showing us that their product will safely get us there.

the original photo

Roy got it right as to the location. We made it near Moab last summer. Here's the original photo.

Herb,

Thanks for the reply...I should sleep better tonight . Once again, your trailer is a beauty, and congradulations on Reese choosing your photo. I can see now (because the river is REALLY on the right side) that your photo was taken not from where mine was, but entering the valley from the north. I was a few miles off. That same shot of the Fisher Towers and the La Sal Mtns is a classic and was the cover of a special Life Magazine a few years back ('98?).

Happy Trails, Roy
