I won't swear it was THE trailer, but we used to own an indentically-appearing trailer. While that doesn't mean it was THE trailer, at least we can claim "George Washington slept here"...
I had the thought of restoring the trailer, but it had been altered too much, and most of the structural wood had been damaged by termites. It DID have the original toilet, sinks, and tub.

Check your local listings.

I have seen clips of the movie but never the Whole thing. I'm so excited I had to share it with you!

I hope you don't mean that your wife prepares dinner in the trailer while you're driving to the next destination!

It's interesting to note that Walter Baldwin (Uncle Edgar) was the first "Floyd the Barber" on "Andy Griffith Show" and Howard McNear (Joe Hittaway) was the second and final "Floyd". Also, Connie Van, "Poor Cousin Grace" played a waitress on "Andy" Season 1 before she died of a cerebral hemorrhage in July 1961.

Madge Blake (Aunt Anastacia) played on "Leave It To Beaver" as Larry Mondello's mom and also Aunt Harriet on "Batman".

Great character actors!

I pulled that pass last year with our 2006 Expedition. I didn't know at the time it was used in the movie. Great movie and a bear of a grade.

I'm surprised they were able to get up it when it was dirt. I would think they would loose traction.

Dangerous Section of Road in Long, Long, Trailer

According to Wikipedia, the dangerous mountain highway featured is Whitney Portal Road, which leads up to Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. The hairpin turn offers scenic views of the Owens Valley.

We stumbled onto it almost at the beginning and it was fun to watch again even though we have it in our library.

That sure was a beautiful trailer park, the first one they pulled into, with all the vintage trailers.

The road they are on is Whitney Portal rd. And not Tioga pass.
Been up and down both easily 20 times, even camped up at Whitney Portal with a 12' tent trailer that we towed with a 2003 2500hd Duramax and that was the perfect combo in that case!
The amount of campsites that could support that long long trailer would be Zero at Whitney Portal campground.
As far as towing anything up and down Whitney Portal, not recomended and our last trip in 2018 we were following a guy down who had smoked his brakes and wasnt towing anything, we were only going 25 to 35 mph too.

The LONG LONG TRAILER Movie Trivia

9-mile grade off the 395 near China Lake. Gets you into the Golden Trout Wilderness and Grumpy Bears. Beautiful area, but you pay for it in gasoline on the way up, and you best go no faster on the way down. Did it in a ‘79 GMC long wheelbase van conversion. Darn near saw myself coming and going on some of the switchbacks, and spent a lot of time pulling off to cool brakes.

Beautiful area, with snow still on the ground in late July. The silence is amazing. Camped with a Scout troop near a 1940’s Civilian Conservation Corps cabin. Was built of Concrete and local rocks, wood milled on site, everything carried in by mules. Natural bowl where the snow depth could exceed 40’ in a wet year.

Not a place for an Airstream, and unreachable except by hiking or horses.

Live webcam of Mt Whitney, you can see the road cut in the lower right.
Assuming you look during daylight and weather is clear. Those spires are seen in the movie at times too.
This is directly above the Alabama Hills that is well known for Boondocking and makes for great scenery.

Film Trickery

Although I'm sure the road is just as treacherous as everyone has previously posted. There was an additional film trick that was used in the wide shots of Lucy and Desi pulling the trailer up the hill. The cinematographer tilted the camera to make the hill much steeper than it really is. If you look at the angle of the boulders in the scene, they are all leaning counterclockwise.

Still a great movie. My wife reminds me every time we watch it, that the rocks she collects on our trips are much smaller than the ones Lucy stores in the trailer.

The LONG LONG TRAILER Movie Trivia

Agree. Whitney Portal Rd. is an amazingly scenic and adventurous drive. We drove up it in a FJ40 Landcruiser, sans trailer. If I remember correctly, there was a prominent sign warning not to attempt with a trailer.

As a gadget kind of guy, I was interested to see that, in the days before weight equalizing hitches, in the movie they towed that New Moon trailer with pivoting dual dolly wheels under the A-frame. Not a bad idea, even today, for supporting a heavy tongue weight. BTW, love the movie!

Has anyone prepared the LLT's caesar salad, beef stroganoff, and angel-food cake (with fresh strawberries)?

But to make it correctly, if I remember the movie correctly, one would need to be in a trailer, and underway, to get exactly the same results as Lucy.[emoji846]

Yes. The trailer tossed the caesar w/o any human input.
