Here is a link to an eBay ad for a press photo showing a similar long, long trailer pulled by a car in 1952:
1952 Press Photo Large Trailer Home Vacation Recreational Vehicle | eBay

Possibly the same trailer make and model, but a different paint scheme than Terry's (TRfour's).

The trailers in the pictures resemble the 1953 New Moon in the Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz movie.

You think? I like Ricki and Lucy's better.

You can tell from this last photo, the Ricardo's TT is nowhere near as long...

Hi, did you notice that they started out with a 1953 Mercury [2nd picture] and later switched to a Lincoln. [3rd picture]

I don't see the Lincoln. Looks like the same car to me.
I want a doorbell like the 1953 New Moon-
Come to think of it, I want a 1953 New Moon.
And a yellow 1953 Chevy 3100 to pull it with.

Looks like storage for the stinky slinky on the curbside in the 2nd picture.
I bet it doesn't really have a sunken living room. I think that was just something for the movie.

I think the movie makers hoped people wouldn't notice.

Hi, yes they look very similar. The Lincoln is larger and longer. The Mercury had a 255 cubic inch Flathead engine, which was under powered, and the Lincoln had a 317 cubic inch overhead valve engine. Also the Mercury had a 2 speed Merc-O-matic trans with a third gear [low] only if manually operated. The Lincoln had a 4 speed Hydramatic trans.

Found a couple more shots of the famous trailer.

First, an overhead shot, showing the surprisingly empty rooftop:

Climbing the "difficult for trailers" 20 miles of bad road:

Backing up to go around the most dangerous turn:

And then the money shot, in the rain, the door flapping open and closed (cue the violins):

Made in Hollywood, U.S.A. ::sigh:: Thank you, MGM!

NO A/C!
No skylights- a good thing in my opinion-
No refrigerator vent.
Only a single vent stack for the plumbing.
I bet that trailer didn't have many roof leaks.

So I searched out this thread having just watched the movie this weekend. I was going to give it a huge thumbs down but then I started reading the thread and couldn't stop! Where is Terry? Did the book ever get published?? Pharmgeek - you need to read this whole thread and see what you're investing in your kids!

Still hated the movie but so glad to have read this thread!

Saw this movie over the weekend. Not really impressed and only got through about half before giving up. It goes back to Netflix today.

A couple questions...

Anyone care to sell or share their copy of this book?

Amazon has copy but thought I would ask here first.

If I get a copy, I will offer back to forum after I check it out.

Send PM is ok.

I hope to get it transcribed to audio if I can...

Peace
Channing and Phyllis.

I got a copy free on interlibrary loan. Libraries have fallen into disuse but are those buildings that have things called books and lonely librarians.

Libraries are online, too. Download the book here, in PDF or e-book formats…

Guess that lonely librarian will be lonely a while longer. Gives her more time to update her Facebook page, I guess.

Away Way Long

Hi Family,
I had surgery, after a LOOOOng 'Go Find Me' series of tests at the VA here in Dallas and was suxsesfully operated on for kidney cancer and have been gaining strength back. They had to give me 16 pts O blood and two pts O platelets and put me in a medically induced coma for 7 days, due to a complication during the operation. When I came to, I did find out that I still had my New England Accent, Howevah.

For anyone interested, I posted in a thread ' Getting There From Here', out on my home forum about our journey West in The Magic Carpet, back in 19 and 52 and Life Magazine photos. I started posting in post#5. Here's a link;
https://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums...ad.php?t=24281

Love Y'all,
Terry

Terry,

I was so surprised to see postings on this thread, and even more surprised to see it was last active almost six years ago. Has it really been that long? So sorry to read about your medical struggles but excited to read your new thread. Hope you continue to improve and are feeling healed and healthy soon.

Carol
