The Long Long Trailer By Clinton Twiss

During our 4,376 mile journey west, we encountered an totally overlooked problem with our short short luggage trailer having a bent axle! Well, we very quickly and over the open road found out that she liked to eat up right side tires!

Now, after the first few flats, it was decided that the important luggage on board needed to get to the west with us! As a family, we all got together and named this short short trailer ( Rascal Flats ), and moved on!

And although she put a hitch in our get along back in them days with some 19 flat tires.

A Special Thank You To All Of The Many Wonderful

Tin Crew Folks Out Here!!

I would like to share some more antique photos taken by Life, just in time for Christmas, in our first home without wheels out in LA California.

Pic#1. Santa Came To Visit Us

Pic#2. Our family together singing Christmas Carols. ( you may be thankful that there is no sound track to go with this one, although I think that we sounded pretty good! ).
Merry Christmas, Y'all

Golden Oldies, and the good O'l days!.. Are we blessed, ( Absolutely )!

I would like to share an old add that was in the Dec, 1953 publication of Life Magazine, along with our story.

How many today, remember when Chris * Craft was involved in the mobile home business??? Let us know...

WOW, an 14' mobile home kit for $549.00 ( + tires ), ( Not tax )...
I guess that prices never had a problem in keeping up with the times...

Hi, I'm not, and never was a smoker, but that looks like "Lucky Strike" in the back round.

Smile Hey Robert...

You are such an eagle eye! ...

Yes, these photos were taken back in the day when cigarettes were more popular than they are today... And yes also, do not smoke!

Hi, I also remember when cigarettes were 23 cents per pack; The vending machines only took Quarters, so there were two pennies inside of the clear package wrapping.

Smoking and drinking were not yet recognized for the problems they created. I smoked at my office desk for a long time. No drinking though.

Most movies in the '30s and '40s that took place in a man's office had one common theme. The person whose office it was would reach into a drawer, pull out a bottle and a couple of glasses, and offer you a drink.

Imagine doing either of those things today!

I used to joke that in Québec, people smoked in church!

Yes, back in the 50s smoking was considered normal. Lucky Strike was a valued advertiser in Life Magazine... I also remember that cigarettes were ten cents per pack at the PX, when I served in the Signal Corps in the mid 60s.

For all of those that may read this, ( Do Not Start Smoking )!!!!

A quote from an old friend of ours;
Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I’ve done it thousands of times. ~ Mark Twain

I was curious about this thread. Don't know if anyone mentioned it (don't have time to read it all) but someone reprinted the book that was referenced in the opening post. You can get it from Amazon now for a pretty good price. The long long trailer by Twiss.

It's an excellent book, and the movie made from it starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz is hilarious too!

I actually bought it on DVD, just to see those crazy scenes going through the mountains.

I didn't know they started reprinting it! The original goes for crazy money on ebay. Just ordered it, thanks.
