Yet, the high ranking officials in the Soviet Union had top of the line.

Yes, the President will tour in his bullet-proff Smart Car.

my marketing plan...

Heck, if they want to sell me the Corvette brand, I'll have it made in China and sell it for $9,999.99 with a 3 litre V6 and option of hybrid for another 5 grand. You'll be able to drive that puppy into the Next century!

Plus, I will remake the tooling for all of them back to 1953 and offer any body panel you want.

Now, the body parts might be a bit more spendy than the whole new car...

IMHO, Corvette will go away when GM closes it's door for good....not before.

They may not be the sharpest tacks in Detroit, but I will tell you one thing, they know darn well what the Corvette means. Cut back production, costs, whatever, but Chevy is staying according to the latest plans along with GMC, Buick and Caddy and as such, the Vette as a Chevy or it's own brand will stay put.

Weren't they just saying today that GM would be filing for bankruptcy despite the billions that have been poured into it?

Remember the Yugo? The Slavs that made them got real jealous because the model that was imported to us was so much nicer than the model that was available to them. So the officials started selling our version to them and called it the Yugo American'!

After what country will we name our American made cars of the future?

Our Corvette club received a letter from the CEO of GM that basically stated that Corvette would be around since GM makes more money off Vettes than any other product coming off the line. We shall see.

The billions kept it running long enough to declare bankruptcy - in other words, it allows some sort of semi-orderly restructuring rather than a collapse.

GM has recently announced the deaths of a lot of high-performance models (Cobalt SS, Impala SS, HHR SS, STS-V, Solstice/Sky) but Corvette remains so far.

Full-sized SUV's were the cash cows of the last 10 years, but now they are toast for the most part...not dead, but they will be specialty vehicles primarily for those that have to have them, i.e. commercial contractors, equine industry, large families and RV'ers like us. Corvette has always been a niche market for Chevy, let's hope the powers that be will let it remain so.

Rest easy, the 'Vette isn't going anywhere. It may get a cost saving redesign, but it won't be killed off.

I just read an article in this evening's newspaper that 6 GM execs sold off nearly 205,000 shares of GM today. GM stock dropped $.17 to finish out at $1.44.

On a good note, here is an article that was posted on the Corvetter Action Center Forum.

GM's Henderson: Corvette's future is secure

By DALE JEWETT
AutoWeek Magazine

Watch the video: VetteTube - Corvette Videos, Corvette Crashes, Corvette Burnouts, Corvette Racing

The future of the Chevrolet Corvette is secure, General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson says, even has GM dramatically slashes its size and costs.

In an exclusive interview with AutoWeek, Henderson says that not only is the Corvette's current platform undergoing continual development, but the future seventh-generation car, dubbed C7, is also on track.

He would not specify when the C7 Vette would hit showrooms.

Henderson was bullish on Corvette. Not only is he a Corvette enthusiast who drives one, he knows that it contributes to the company's bottom line.

According to GM's top man, "Corvette pays its rent."

The current sixth-generation C6 Corvette has been in production since 2005. The C6 platform used major components from the C5 fifth-generation Corvette, but with substantial upgrades.

AutoWeek reported in October that work on the C7 Vette had been put on an indefinite hold as GM scrambled to cut costs. The talk then was that the C6 platform could be as old as 12 years before the C7 was ready to go.

Wow, C6 in production for 12 years. That's a while even in today's auto environment.
