I'm not sure if I understand what's going on here.
I used to understand these things, now I don't.
Someone want to explain?

Hi, not being able to shovel snow is one of the reasons that I moved from California to Oregon. I bought my very first snow shovel this year and we didn't get any snow this year. [yet]

Maybe you do understand these things, but your rational mind cannot cope with the real meaning. Could this be another version of Last Year at Marienbad? Or perhaps, Groundhog Day?
Moving on, or down—
Roids? or Androids?
And we had about 5" lovely inches of wet snow last night, a welcome respite from warm days and dry skies. The snow shovel came out, mostly in my young wife's hands. I used the electric snow blower the past owner left us on the back deck, but the snow was so wet it clogged up the machine several times. Very good iceball snow. And for the steep driveway, I drove up and down with the pickup to crunch the snow down, thereby making it slick so when it freezes no one will be able to come up except us with our mighty Toyotas. Most of the day has been spent in fog (fog when you're in it, cloud when you are above or below it), clouds down in the valley that pile up and envelop us.

Picturesque description in the last paragraph, Gene...
The rest is the usual Argue Thread rubbish, yes?

Meteorological fact: Clouds at altitude contain four times as much water vapor per cubic foot of air as does fog near ground level, and the water vapor in clouds is at a below-freezing temperature, so it's actually "ice" vapor. Fog and clouds are not the same thing.

I doubt that's true. There is no such thing as ice vapor. Except at the triple point, 32.01F.

Rubbish? rm', are you a consumer of rubbish? Does your mother know? Indeed!
But, back to clouds and fog—the clouds are above Grand Junction, just like us, a measly half mile above the teeming city. Go to GJ, look up and see clouds. We look down on them often. When they balloon upward as they run into Grand Mesa and are narrowed down between the cliffs on each side (higher across from us), they envelop us, so we are in the clouds that look exactly like fog. Clouds and fog here are a lot dryer than elsewhere because of the desert. As for "ice vapor", just like "military intelligence", though perhaps Italian Ice Vapor would be tasty.

I learned my lesson not to question Protag the engineer. Propane tanks vs propane cylinders if I recall. That's the problem with engineers... their ''technically'' right most of the time.

Engineer: A person that starts with grand concepts and produces MAJOR malfunctions.
NB: I am one of those people....and Murphy was an optimist.

Well they are both pressure vessels after all. The only difference is their mobility.
It's less a matter of engineering and more a feat of nomenclature and regulatory authority.

Yes Mark. Protag enlighten me that propane tanks are permanently mounted, and cylinders were removable. At what age do we become know it alls again? It seems the more I know, the less I know.

You are of course correct. That's why I put "ice vapor" in quotation marks, to show its dubious veracity. Sub-freezing water vapor is still water vapor. Until it clumps together to make ice particles such as hail or snowflakes instead of clumping together to make drops of water.
I was trying to create a mental picture for people without a science background. Should have known that there are too many people here who DO have science backgrounds!
But it IS true that clouds at altitude do contain about 4 times as much water vapor per cubic foot than low-altitude fog.

Is the tank not a cylinder too?
Is this one of those, "All bourbons are whiskeys, but not all whiskeys are bourbons" thing?
While we are at it, why do we drive on a parkway but park in a driveway?

Sooo, there is such a thing as ice vapor?
I'm more of a "if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem" kind of guy.
I also happen to know the difference between cerise and pink... don't judge.
