Real heroes don't usually talk about being heroic--either before or after.
IMHO, the difference between a hero and a bystander is a matter of timing and action. Talk is cheap. It's been my experience that heroes show up only when you really, really need them.
My usual comment is, "Lead, follow, or get outta the way!"

Instead of arguing, I will agree. My dad and several of his brothers were decorated "war heroes". Dad was the oldest of nine, and his next younger brother was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was the only living person (at the time) to have a Medical Center named after him. He continued to be highly modest, all the way.
As is true with many heroes, they do not seek personal glory.
The sad thing now is that there are fewer and fewer of us to attest to how, they, to a man, just "did what was needed", instead of looking to 'how does it benefit me'.

There are still plenty who step up. Thinking of all the folks who wear bunker gear or a blue uniform, as well as all military.

Now that I am no longer collassal, and can’t even spell it (comment from dep’t of obscurity), I will agree real heroes don’t blow their own horns. In fact when they are described as heroes, they deny it usually saying, “anyone would have done it”.
As I am anything but new blood, best to go outside and breath forest fire smoke. This is the one smoke in Colorado that doesn’t get you high.

Some perfectionists claim the decade starts next New Year's, but the people have spoken, or counted maybe. Regardless of the zero problem, the decade started already. For those of you from Sumer, you have to wait two more years.
You gotta know it is January and we are stir crazy. Meanwhile, somebody please point me to the bed.
