I'm also Welsh, a traditional character trait of which means I love to complain. At least I'm not Scottish, or I'd be a miser to boot, so I wouldn't own an Airstream Interstate!

Brevity may be efficient, but seldom is it entertaining. I would much prefer to be entertained for a longer time, than briefed for a shorter time.

The origin of "Brevity Stuns" was unknown to me until I searched and found it in this work.

"Tradition and the Poetics of Self in Nineteenth-century Women's Poetry"

I seriously doubt that I would find it brief or entertaining.

The Argue Thread

Just the title made my eyes glaze over. I prefer brevity.

My occasional status meetings were all held standing up, and if someone talked too long they got escorted out the door. Didn't need the drivel and BS for making an already pointless meeting run longer.

If it's a pointless meeting why did you have them? Whose status was the meeting for?
I'm confused again.

All meetings are pointless. Otherwise they'd be called something else: an introduction, a date, a wedding, a wake, a party, whatever. But if it's JUST a meeting, it's a get-together to talk about what you're supposed to be doing instead of actually going off and doing it.

As the saying goes, "A meeting is teamwork, without the work."

The Argue Thread

Certain 'managers' insist on regular status meetings so their troops can tell them what is going on.

My personal technique is to get off my butt, get out of the office, and go talk to the troops one on one. It gets better results and does not tie up a bunch of people while they wait for their turn to speak whatever politically correct BS they think others want to hear. I'm neither aerodynamically or politically correct, and that's why if I am forced to hold a marginally useful status meeting, its over real fast.

The last time I had a meeting to deal with a crisis, we planned the solution, and my comment was "I'll email you all when its solved." One hammerhead had the temerity to ask me when I planned to hold a daily status meeting on the problem, and was dumbfounded to hear that I did not plan to waste any more time doing so. The expression of total gob-smacked confusion on that persons face, and the sighs of relief from the folks working to implement the agreed fast fix made it worth it.

The fix took a whole two days without meetings. I be it would have delayed a week if I held the stupid status BS sessions.

Some managers just did not know how to deal with me....which kept them at a safe distance in my opinion.

I like meetings. So much better than working.

There are actually meetings that do get things done if the chair knows how to do it.

Gene if you like meetings your are just a weird old fart. Maybe you need counseling.....but I guess that too is a meeting of sorts.

The demons have returned to my garage door opener so I have been preoccupied with that. I have been looking for the gallon of urea to pour on the seats but not having much luck. People look at me real weird when I ask for that stuff. They want to know why I want it and I tell them Gene told me it would work to get rid of demons. Next question is who the hell is Gene. I say formerly Crawford Gene and they say oh that figures.
Anyway, neighbor is having demons in his truck also so I thought I would be a good neighbor and fix his truck first. Waiting till he goes to bed.

I have been reading the 150, 250, 350 Truck thread and I think there is a whole lot of BS going on. If I posted comments about the DK's there the mod's would surely send me a PM with the rules about the being nice stuff. I do try so hard to be nice!

I have a theory about the demons in my garage door opener. Just like the rest of the country, there have been massive layoffs in the demon union and there is just not enough demons to go around. Why sometimes the garage door opener works and why sometimes it doesn't.
All I have for now.

That's because they're too polite to say to look no farther than your own bladder. Urine contains urea, and all it costs is the price of a six-pack of your favorite suds.

Dang, being brief. Never thought of that.
