Vaseline intensive care is used for all intensive purposes. Used on your hitch ball, it can alleviate intensive porpoises. But the point is mute.

This one gets extra credit, as it references the topic of this thread.

I’m pouring over this, but refuse to argue — and you can’t make me!

It's "moot point." The word "mute" means silent.

If you're going to argue tautologies like "ATM Machine" and "VIN Number" then you might as well include debit card "PIN Numbers," or "It's 9:00 a.m. in the morning," or "and etc." or "necessary requirements." There are just so many redundant tautologies (there's another one) that we could start a whole new tautology thread as well. And there's another one used by accident: you can't start an old thread, so "start a new thread" counts as a tautology, too.

Perhaps, but this one seems to get re-started more often than not.

You beat me to the point unless the point is that we wish the points were left mute?

No sniff, cliff, then, again, or whiff in ATM or VIN designations.
Requires alternate sugestions.
Even the response included ifs.
So then try again your tif.

Perhaps you didn't realize we had moved on to homophones. The use of mute point was surely intended.

I suspect he realized, but was just being argumentative, which would normally make me angry, except this thread is meant for that purpose. So the point is mute.

I have to head to the ATM machine and get some cash money now.

Indeed I did not realize the shift to homophones. Or homonyms. Which are synonyms. Having been an engineer, with an engineer's mindset and thought processes, I tend to be too literal most of the time, and too sarcastic the rest of the time, depending on exactly how caffeinated I happen to be at the time.

Always assuming, for the sake of argument, that the shift to homophones wasn't retroactive to cover up a gaffe.

As they used to say in Government, "Our goal is a paperless office. Make two copies and discard the original."
