As a retired "Mustang" I can see both sides of the Officer/Enlisted debate. However, I don't get it when a civilian asks me what I did in Iraq/Afghanistan and with a smile I tell them I was a Door-Gunner on a Submarine. When they ask me if I was in any danger, I say no, just got wet a few times, they thank me for my service and walk away. Those are the folks I worry about...
How far? - All the way!

Ditto for me. I posted that completely in jest, of course, having been on both sides of that particular fence.

I usually tell folks I was an "in-flight missile repairman". They only look sideways at you for a minute or so. Then just walk away.

I tell people I repaired computers on an aircraft carrier, and get the same reaction.

The weird bit is that it is the unvarnished truth...figure that!

An obviously photoshopped photo, everyone knows that at a minimum a 3/4 ton is required for an Airstream.

Go Forwards or Go Forward with Back Up Strap?

I woke up early this morning excited about the day because I'm heading out for a trip next week to the Keys in Florida. Needed to get a lot of stuff done but it was raining and my back hurts. My buddy Ed is sorta coming down this way and we'll hook up by the time we get there.
I couldn't do squat since it was raining except clean the trailer because it is in my shop and out of the weather. Did check the brakes and of course one out of six didn't work when I pulled the pin. Crawled under and found the wires disconnected. Fixed it. Did I mention my back hurts!
When the rain and lighting really started, I came inside and did what I always do, get on the forums. Got excited about the threads about if somebody attacks you, don't hurt them just squirt juice in their eyes and call 911. Another thread was the big bang theory with the sure nuff big boy toys. I wanted to post in both of those threads but didn't. Like Ron White says " I have the right to remain silent, just sometime lack the ability"
It is still raining and I thought about doing a thread on why I sold my F-150 and bought a F-350. Could get in trouble. That would take time and sitting in my desk chair makes my back hurt more. I like the argue thread. Nobody gets in trouble here.
Ed has not gotten here yet so I am kinda needing help. There is a lotta talk in the Keys about Flip Flops and blowing them out. Pop tops seem to do them in. Now, I have flip Flops that have the straps over the side of my foot. Both sides only. Also have the big strap with no toe hold. These do fine most of the time, but when you need to escape and run backwards, don't you need a back up strap?
I personally will only wear flip flops with a back up strap. Just for safety.

I don't even own flip-flops. They chafe. I wear TEVA sandals, which do have a back-up strap for safety. No "beep beep beep" backup alarms, though.

Except sometimes I wear neoprene "reef runners" — like scuba wetsuit booties but with textured plastic soles— that I bought for kayaking but that also work well for when it rains in New Orleans, which is about one day in six year-round. New Orleans is the third wettest metro area in the US, after Pensacola and Mobile. Seattle and Portland rank 14th and 15th, respectively, according to the National Weather Service.

I don't see how we can discuss your flip flops without pictures. However as I imagine them, they would no longer flip and flop with a back up strap, and therefore they would be misnamed,

Hi, I hate flip flops. Flip flops are for the beach, not for church, the mall, or even Wal-Mart. Actually I hate all shoes [mostly women's] that needlessly made noise. While in the mall, when a female walks by with that clip clop cluck, I always say, "It sounds like a Clydesdale just walked by." Now it's cute when a toddler wears her mother's shoes and clip clonks through her house, but very annoying to hear a grown woman sounding like a Clydesdale in public.

A woman wears loud shoes to attract attention. So whether it's annoying or not all depends on if she's attractive enough to be worth the attention she so desperately craves!

Hey, I'm shallow and superficial that way. I make no apologies for having grown up with Sean Connery's portrayal of James Bond as a role model.
