Trader Joe's has a lot of house brands, but unlike the big chains, they are good quality, not generic low quality. There's a new Sprouts in Grand Junction and they are good for fruit and veggies, but otherwise I think their prices are high. Sometimes they have good deals on bulk items (then they are the same as TJ's everyday prices).

Natural Foods (A/K/A Vitamin Cottage) is getting hurt badly by Sprouts out here and TJ may kill them in Denver. I'd love to see TJ come west, but I doubt they will for quite a while. Colorado's liquor laws—no company can have more than one license—make it hard for TJ to sell it's popular wines. Kroger's has some good chains (and some bad ones—Smith's comes to mind) and we get a lot of stuff at City Market (managed together with King Soopers).

Ken, get down to Boulder and check out TJ's, get some Joe-Joe's (just eat 1 or 2 a day) and stop in at Colorado's newest retailers (I don't mean TJ's) and see what's happening there.

I don't have the patience for the long wait in line. It probably would not be so bad if they would give samples to those waiting in line like some businesses do.

I have experience working in that industry - you'd be surprised who's behind some of the house brands. 90% of house brands are just as good as their branded equivalents, because they come off the same production line.

Also, if you buy generic cooking oil, including olive oil, buy the cheapest. It's all the same oil, just badged differently.

Yuppie boomer organic where all the salespersons look like Jimmy Buffet and all the women dress Santa Fe style. Prime pan handler real estate.

It'a high time to resurrect this thread.

I'm tired of useless comments by people who don't have actual knowledge about what they are talking about!

Me, too, to some extent....tho it seems inherent in human nature, and to come out when people want to participate, feel a part of, etc.

Uninformed opinions and comments are inevitable on an open forum such as this, it would seem to me.

Some people are lonely, caught up in whatever topic or lifestyle, and want to be included and be what they think others are being. No matter the relevance of their experiences...or lack thereof, as the case may be.

Which is why, unless you know your source well, take suggestions and comments in, look at things carefully, then do what is best for you.

My 2 cents.

I would argue that point but I don't know anything about it.

If you want to be heard, speak up.

If you want to be seen, stand up.

If you want to be admired, shut up.

Ouch.

Well....'since this is "argue threads"

Why did the chicken cross the road?

DONALD TRUMP: We will build a big wall to keep the chickens from
crossing the road, and we will make the chickens pay for it.

JOHN KERRY: We will trust the chicken to tell us whether it crossed the
road or not.

CHRIS CHRISTIE: We need to water board that chicken to find out why it
crossed the road.

RAND PAUL: It's none of our business why the chicken crossed the road.

NANCY PELOSI: We will have to wait until the chicken crosses the road
to see what it says.

CARLY FIORINA: Hilary Clinton lied about why the chicken crossed the
road.

BRIAN WILLIAMS: I crossed the road with the chicken.

BEN CARSON: This isn't brain surgery.

SARAH PALIN: Because, gosh-darn it, he's a maverick!

HILLARY CLINTON: What difference at this point does it make why the
chicken crossed the road?

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road.
We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not.
The chicken is either with us or against us.

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with that chicken.

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize
that he must first deal with the problem on this side of the road
before it goes after the problem on the other side of the road.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is
why he wants to cross the road so badly. I'm going to give this chicken
a NEW CAR so he can just drive across the road.

ANDERSON COOPER: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we
have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain, alone.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2015, which will not only
cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents and
balance your checkbook.

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road
move beneath the chicken?

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

AL SHARPTON: Why are all the chickens white?

AL GORE: I invented the chicken.

BARACK OBAMA: Let me be perfectly clear, if the chickens like their
eggs they can keep their eggs.

"Because it's too far to walk around." From the riddle contest between the giant and the hero in the novel "Three Hearts and Three Lions" by Poul Anderson.
