Where I live in Estancia, NM USPS does not deliver to street addresses at all. Everything goes to your PO Box. UPS delivery is based on the post office. so when some one tries to send a package the address comes up as "not verified". Then there are the businesses who won't take an order if the address is a PO Box. Forget DSL. They take the package to the post office in Albuquerque and mail it to the street address which means of course it does not have the correct PO Box address and you don't get it. Somehow the USPS creed "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" does not apply and I have multiple arguments with someone on the other end who is incredulous there is someplace USPS won't deliver a package.I would love to have someone at UPS or USPS to argue with about this with but everybody passes the buck. So in Estancia we just argue with each other. I appreciate this vicarious opportunity to argue about something which won't get you punched in the nose. I think this is a neglected factor in "going postal".

So I guess, Luma, there really is such a thing as living at the end of the world.

Not only do I have drive into the big city to get mail, but the Post Office charges me $70 a year for the damn box (living in it is tough too—I have to wait on line to use the bathroom). They'll give me a box for free in the wrong direction and want me to drive 1,800 miles per year to a run down single wide trailer to get mail. And they are snooty about it too. The public shows great forbearance in not going "postal" even if the employees do. Sometimes packages go back and forth between Grand Junction post offices and eventually get found. I have figured out how to get Amazon to split orders so that some things get delivered to the house and some to the PO box instead of floating around the Post Office's arcane system.
But UPS and FedEx can find my house, Bob. They must have updated their navigation thingies. So take that!

The Argue Thread
I wasn't at Woodstock.
I was at the corner of Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco many times in the 60's.
I have pictures to prove it.

The Argue Thread
No relation, but I do remember "Mr. Natural" just passing through and of course "Wonder Warthog".
Strange times, great music and a lot of "interesting" people on the street.
Then add in watching the first release movie '2001' in Cinerama on Market Street, dead center in the theatre right behind a bunch of folks smoking some pungent weed. Added a lot of ambience to the mind-blowing sequences in the film...😄

. . . good ambience indeed!
I swear I saw The Checkered Demon masquerading as the cook at a truck stop in Gallup, New Mexico, on a cross-country trip back in the 70's. No kidding . . . the face, the black and white checkered pants . . . the attitude . . . you had to be there.
And no, I had not been drinking or using any recreational drugs! Just bookin' hard to get to the other coast.
The Zap artists often based their characters on real people, and did not make much of an effort to mask the corresponding comic character's faults and foibles. The facial resemblances were often startling in fact.
Actually, the people portrayed in a less-than-complimentary light probably took it as a badge of honor -- to be represented as weird and flawed -- during the turbulent late 60's and early 70's. [names and dates redacted . . . ]
Strange times indeed . . .

The Argue Thread
Yup. The comics from that period are simply amazing. I'm glad I survived the experience. My buddy and I darn near got run over by a Muni bus that ran the light close by where we crossed Market Street to get to the theatre. I noticed him starting to run 3/4 across the street. I barely made it to the curb, and I heard the zipper pull on my jacket as it went tink, tink, tink down the side of the bus as I hit the curb. Just a little too close for comfort. But hey, the movie was well worth the time...
Being in the Navy on an aircraft carrier and participating in two cruises off Vietnam, not so much. . Survival is a GOOD thing, IMHO.

I had an ex-girlfriend who moved to Haight-Ashbury in 1973 or '74 with another ex-girlfriend because they wanted to live the hippie life. They were years too late and maybe not too smart since they didn't check that out (they were ex-girlfriends after all). Later one married and even later divorced a doctor in Santa Barbara and the other was last seen by a friend (who could have been a girlfriend, but I was too dumb to realize it and take up the offer) waiting tables in Walla Walla. I've never been in Walla Walla, Santa Barbara or the Haight and I'm not even trying to avoid ex-girlfriends.
Regardless (and that 'graph was easy to disregard which would be regard-
less), is this now the Agreeable Thread?

I am back from the Key's. Had a great time. My back did quit hurting after I got there. As for my sandals, it was a good thing I had a back up strap on mine. I was kayaking at low tide and got stuck. After getting out and trying to pull the thing out, my foot with the sandals on sunk in about 10 inches. Flip Flop would still be there.
And GENE, the hippy chicks I had as girlfriends could have kicked your girlfriends butt.
Agreeable threads are for sissys.

Chef's pants are traditionally checkered. The pattern helps to hide minor stains. Chef's aprons don't go all the way to the floor because they'd be tripping hazards, thus some stains end up on the lower pants legs instead of the apron.
Paisley would probably hide stains better, but paisley prints are for sissies.

During the Summer of Love I was hanging out with one of my hippyish friends in Bronx Park. One of us, don't remember who said "hey wanna go to a concert upstate?" "Sure", I was up for anything in those days so we walked to the Bronx River Parkway and started hitching. We got to the 3 m long Tappen Zee Bridge on the NYS Thruway and kept getting pushed back by the NY State Police. Not seeing any kind of vessel to commandeer, and not thinking swimming across the Hudson was a good idea we got on the NY Central RR back to the city. This is my Woodstock story.
