In the above thread, there are many mentions of the word troll. However, I take exception to the origin put forth. It is preposterously proposed that the word's origin is the creatures that live under bridges and snatch gruff billy goats.

My understanding is that the word originated from the method of fishing called trolling. In trolling, one baits a hook and dangles it into water alongside or behind a slow moving boat. The intent is to trick some gullible fish into reacting to the bait and thus do some foolish. (for instance get caught, cleaned and eaten). Therefore, those who practice this same form of fishing on the internet should be called Trollers, as the word troll in this use is a verb. Instead some apparent ne'r-do-wells have chosen to malign those noble creatures who live under bridges and protect the rest of us from gruff Billy goats. If enough of you agree that this great miscarriage of justice needs to be rectified, I will set up a Gofundme site and you can all send me bunches of money to attack this problem (or possibly just buy toys).

Could we take a poll on Ken's post here?

I'm pretty sure I'd argue with that if I understood it. Maybe I need several beers?????

I missed out on being a hippie. The navy kept making me cut my hair.

however I guess if you have enough rank ( I was often told I was very rank, however) you can get away with it.

I'm pretty sure I saw this guy in the Haight Ashbury area in the late 60's.

To me he's known for being the first picture I found of a Navy hippie.

However, at one time he was Captain of the USS Monitor.

Since my profession was one which featured arguing I am well qualified to post on this thread except you have to send me a retainer (that means cash should you be dentally misoriented) before I post. Don't make me wait too long because I'm old and may not last long.

I'm not dentally misoriented. I just got my tongue wrapped around my eye teeth and couldn't see what I was saying!

I don't have a vision problem, because I've had a optorectomy. They cut the nerve that was connecting my eyes to my posterior area and causing me to the have a crappy outlook.

No one sent me cash for a retainer, preferring to spend their cash at the dentist. Thus, ergo, I will have to argue with myself ad infinitum. No! I won't. And, further more, res ipsa locator and waive the tort and sue in assumpsit, something like that.
