Somebody told me they can't spray from a live trap if they can't raise their tail. But I would still hold my breath on that one. Sal.

Seriously - that's EXACTLY what we did in the Army to avoid jobs we didn't want to do again, like make coffee or raise an antenna.

Just put a skunk near a road and they'll wander onto it and when they see a car coming, they try to spray it (it always worked before with anything else), and splat!

It seems like anytime we got somewhere in this county there's skunk smell on a section of highway. Actually, I don't think it smells bad although I'm not looking to bring one home either.

"Old" skunk smell left on the road after the skunk is gone is pungent, but I've smelled cheeses (Limburger) and fruit (Durians) that are worse. "New" smell from fresh road-kill or a live skunk is so eye-watering that it must have been the inspiration for military-issue tear gas!

I like Limburger, though I never see it in the stores anymore. Maybe I should live at a skunk farm and cheese factory.

Gene are you at home? I can't see anything from all the smoke around here. I haven't seen the San Juan or the West Elks since I have been home ! I can't even see Delta Today and it's only 13 miles as the crow flies.

The smell you smell on the road is only about as half what the fresh out of the butt smell is. It makes your eyes water it's so strong. I know from the one that let lose in my barn. I didn't get sprayed but my barn sure did..

I had a problem with skunks in Estancia where I lived. They used to visit my chicken coop in the middle of the night. On one occassion I heard a commotion and ran out in my underwear and a broom to shoo the skunk.

I then got a live trap. Yes, they don't spray when in a trap. Caught about a dozen of them. But of course, it could have been the same skunk 12 times.

Skunks are always getting a bad rap. are pretty intelligent. Skunks deserve love and respect and have feelings too. They make good pets.

Any Loudon Wainwright IIL fans?
"Crossing the highway late last night
he didn't look left and he didn't look right.
He didn't see the station wagon car.
The skunk got squooshed and there you are.
Dead skunk in the middle of the road.
Dead skunk in the middle of the road.
Dead skunk in the middle of the road.
Stinking to high heaven!"

I believe you have skunks (AKA Polecats) confused with ferrets (AKA European Polecats), who DO make good pets, once you've de-scented them.

Shape shifting skunks

They have many talents.

Long long ago and a dark and stormy night highway between San Antonio and Corpus Christi, I saw a skunk appear in the head lights, before I could even react, my wife (now ex) screamed, "Look out for the monkey!!".

Keep in mind this is the same college graduate wife, that once asked me where the sun went when it set. On another occasion, we were on Lake Mead in her brother's boat. She got a wondering look at her face (actually she looked like that a lot) and said "This is a man made lake isn't it?"
I said, "Yes."
Then she asked, "Where did they put all the dirt?"
I told her, "They put it in big trucks and hauled it to Washington State, and built Mt Rainier.
Of course she said, "Oh."

In her defense, although she was not blond, she was a cheerleader.

Can't quite decide if that's a brilliant segue to a new topic or a complete non sequitur.

Both, skunks were starting to bore me.

The new topic is dumb things EXs said.

Ken

PS, If you don't have an EX, then make something up, but make it convincing.

This is why I married a band nerd who went to medical school and became a doctor and have been happily married for 16 years. And she is a looker too... Swedish.

And no matter what I don't love skunks in 6 years they have killed at least 40 of my chickens...

I have been trying to convince my wife for 26 years she should go to medical school so I could get an appointment when I needed it instead of when I recovered or died of whatever I had. No luck.

As far as visibility, I can't see Grand Mesa today and the West Elks are shadowy. Sometimes we can't see more than a mile or two, other times we can see 40 miles, but is it vague. Sunsets are very red because of the smoke. At least few or any of the fires are in Colorado now, but the rest of the west is doing badly. We don't smell smoke, so the fires are pretty far. We've smelled smoke when fires were only a couple of hundred miles way, so these must be further.

We hardly even argue anymore. The Forum has been sanitized—no fun, no silliness, no arguing, no nothing.
