The Airstream/Craigslist War
There is apparently a declared war going on between an unknown "Flagger" and a certain CL user....probably a scammer. I have been seeing the continued flagging and removal of Airstream for sale ads....typical flood the country with cheap Bambi ads, Vintage small Airstreams, ....you know the ones. Not to be confused with the Flagger who does the dirty work just to "hide" a good deal for himself. Well, they have expanded the war to name calling and EBAY involvement. Attack/counter attack. DORKS!

I will second that request. For those of who do not use Texting as our means of communication an expanded description might help.

Go to any of the Craigalist search sites...or any large city site....like LA. search for a Bambi....or any 17ft Airstream. They are gone....removed by flagging, which can be done by anyone...instantaneously. These two are duking it out by the flagger using SearchTempest to locate all of the "sellers" ads. He then flags them all. The seller calls him on it, resubmits the ads and again the flagger blocks them all. If your new on the Forums you probably don't have a clue on Tempest or the searches that go on....it's a subculture of sorts.

It takes several flags to eliminate an ad on craigslist.
CL wont tell you the exact number but I'm guessing a dozen or more.
Not just one person can do it.
I don't follow the AS ads there but I do follow the Ford tractor ads closely.
In the last year or so there has been a scammer who will post an ad like for a Ford tractor that's usually worth say $25K for about $9K. It's a pretty obvious scam and usually gets flagged right away.
It is likely someone is doing similar scam ads for Airstreams.
So you just gotta go by the old addage "if it seems too good to be true it probably is."
I'll tell you what gets me about CL ads is people who use all those darned keywords so their ad comes up in more searches.
Like if they are selling a John Deere tractor they'll add the keywords, Ford, Allis Chalmers, Oliver, Farmall, Chevy, Dodge, etc, etc.
Or in the case of campers, etc a guy will be selling some crummy old Winnebago and adds the keywords Bambi, Airstream, basecamp, Fleetwood, etc so it shows up in your AS search.
I ALWAYS flag those ads.

I remember seeing an eBay ad auto posted in this forum for a 2012 27fb Flying Cloud for $20k and at first I was really ticked off knowing what I just spent on mine, then I thought, that has to be a scam. So this "subculture" is a sort of cat and mouse game between scammers and flaggers?

Thank you, it is working now. I did not know that such a search site existed.

The lesson to take home from this…
If you really have an Airstream to sell, don't list it on Craigslist; find somewhere more reputable, such as the AirForums Classifieds. That way you avoid the whole Hatfields & McCoys experience.

Perhaps, but I sure am glad my seller didn't feel that way.
Craigslist is a wonderful site that allows people to make quick cash and doesn't cost a dime to do so. You just have to use common sense for the most part.

When there is money to be made the sharks feed. When there is big money to be made they feed heavily and will stop at nothing to get to the meat. It has taken the joy right out of my Airstream experience.

Agreed. I used to love to use Jaxed Mash search site & they quelched that one. I had my '86 Sovereign listed on CL and constantly got flagged. I gave up.

As of right now, no. I have a buyer who needs to wait until after the 1st of the year for tax purposes. We'll see! But it wasn't through CL.

If you prefer to sell or respond to CL ads use your phone number or an email you don't care about for contact. If someone asks "can you please send more pictures of...." When you respond they now have your email address and before you know it you are getting tons of spam email because your ad is linked to your email. This is how spammers get your email adress. they spend all day responding to ads. I sell a lot through eBay and CL just choose your method of communication carefully

Scammers are back IN FORCE
I thought I had finally come up with the 56 Airstream I have been searching for. I am also well aware of the scammers so I watch carefully so as not to let my enthusiasm get the best of me. Here we go......
Great !! 55 Airstream Cruiser - $11500 (Detroit )
Then I get the reply....alarms go off big time. I am still looking for my dream 56....it's just not here.
Still available and I am sorry for the late answer but for some reason your email ended up in my spam folder and I don't check my spam folder very often. Unfortunately I am not home right now because my sister was involved in a car accident last week and suffered a head trauma so I had to come here and take care of my nephew until the doctors investigate her and make sure she's alright. I don't mean to impose and this is no excuse for anything, I was just explaining my situation. I'm selling this through AST anyway so the sale has nothing to do with my situation.
I believe you know what AST is if you are selling or buying online often but if you don't, no problem I'll be happy to walk you through the process. Drop me an email if you are still interested and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Thanks
- Melanie
