Talk me down!

I'm frustrated. I just did my spring wardrobe purge, and cussit I still don't have room in my closet. I've even put up an auxiliary rod in the bedroom under the overhead cabinet to hold five or six garments. I've got the 25 FB SE with a very small wardrobe. The one in my 22 CCD was actually about twice the size.

I have admired the 27 FB for quite a while. I spotted a NEW 2007 CCD model at quite a savings, and could trade in both of my existing ones.

OK, first take me out of doing this. Second tell me what the differences are between a 2007, 2008 and 2009 27 FB CCD models. If I do this again I sure want this to be the last time for a long time.

Take no offense!

Hi, I think I need to answer your question's with questions.

(1.) How many brand new Airstream trailers have you bought so far?

(2.) How much stuff do you want to have in your trailer?

(3.) Are you full timing and/or living in your trailer?

(4.) Are you independently wealthy or digging yourself deeper each time?

(5.) Is the grass always greener on the other side? Like at the Jones's

Now I will answer these questions as if it were me.

(1.) I only have one Airstream trailer and don't plan on changing, ever.

(2.) I like the fact that I can't carry too much junk/stuff, I have a house for that.

(3.) I only camp and travel with my trailer; I live in a house.

(4.) I'm far from rich; This trailer was a retirement gift to my wife and I, from my wife and I.

(5.) Sometimes the grass looks greener, but I'm OK with that.

If I were you I'd trade in the two you've got and upgrade to the 27 FB. You only live once and since you full time it's good to have some addtional closet space.

You could probably save some dough by going directly to a 34 footer.

Why not just gut it and turn it into one large rolling closet. A rod street side and a rod curb side from front to back. Lots of storage that way.

I know the Grass is definitly greener in California

"OK, first take me out of doing this."

you don't want to do this as it will leave you with only one trailer.

"Second tell me what the differences are between a 2007, 2008 and 2009 27 FB CCD models."

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

"If I do this again I sure want this to be the last time for a long time."

define "long time".

1) buy less new clothes
2) buy thinner clothes
3) wear the same clothes every day
4) become a nudist ;-)

Hi Paula,

First to talk you out of it. Two Airstreams hold more clothes than one, and you already own them. Is that a convenience or a burden? Your 25' is so nice and the 22' model is cute as a button. Smaller units fit into smaller spaces.

But...you have been tempted by the 27' for quite a while now. I can't see any drawbacks with that BIG shiny new red beauty of a workhorse you just bought. As a fulltimer the extra room is bound to come in handy, besides the larger closet you will have easier access to underbed storage with a centered bed rather than crossway, I am assuming you are considering the queen size bed again.

If you have found a new CCD at a great price I think you should consider grabbing it. They will not be making the older CCDs or Safaris I think are changes, but the Signature and Ocean Breeze trim line and new those are priced so much higher. If you wait you may get a better deal on a used one but then again you may not.

I know you like the sleek aluminum walls. The new 2009 Flying cloud is listed high and you may prefer the white molded overheads to the safari cabinetry or not???

Is there a new vent thermo bedroom comfort package in 2009? I don't even know what that is yet.

If you wait someday a used 30'FB may show up and perhaps in the aluminum interior. Until then tell your "boss" to supply you with a uniform, that will cut down on closet space taken up. (I know, you ARE the boss, lol)

And the monitor may need a tv tuner box or replacing on the 2007 when it goes digital next year.

I agree with the 34' comment. There are some deals on them right now as nobody wants to pay to tow them and they definitely do not go every where a smaller unit does. If you get the 27 you will still not be happy. Go big or stay home.

I gotta say that the 31 has an embarrassment of plentiful closet space - cedar-lined, to boot. So much so that when we went out on a combined work/fun month-long trip this Spring, I didn't use anywhere near the capacity. Surprisingly, neither did Page.

S'nice.

But that isn't "talking you down" though, is it? Sorry...

if you became a nudist you wouldn't need all that closet space.

Have you considered?

Have you thought about redoing the inside of one of your current trailers to suit your needs? Just a thought. paula

Paula, Didn't we camp together at the WDCU Installation Rally in New Port News last year? If so, you didn't come across as too old or fat to me. I go for the older ladies though, that is why I have a 47 year old trailer. You were too smart and you were too kind though...

I think I have your solution.

Mount a hitch ball to the back of one of your trailers. Gut the other one, polish all of the interior panels to a mirror finish, and turn it into a rolling, walk-in closet. Then you can tow your "closet trailer" behind your "living trailer."

No need to thank me for this brilliant idea.

Hi, was that a Brilliant idea, or bright idea? "Polish all of the interior panels to a mirror finish." Now you have the elusion of having double the wardrobe and double the wardrobe space, for half the cost.

Or you can do what I did. I put some of my clothes in a tote and put it in the back of the truck and change them out when I want something new or different.

Good storage ideas. I like the walk-in (sleep-in) mirrored closet idea though.

What about those space bags that you suck all the air out of and flatten for your seasonal or seldom used clothes?

Can you turn your bed front to back and put in a smaller double bed against one wall of the AS and install a closet and dresser on the other like they used to do in the older 25' Classics as an optional floorplan?

I know one of the differences is the emergency window in the bedroom between the 2007 and 2008 models. They removed the portal window below the emergency window and (i think) installed a larger emergency window in the 2008 model.

We looked closely at a 2007 and that's the only difference I can find.

Don't let the extra space around the bed, larger closet and pantry with microwave option tempt you.

Or maybe I've been tempting myself.

So, I was browsing on rvtraderonline.com today and saw a 2009 FB CCD, it was a 25, but the ad didn't say that until I opened it up. There it was... new upholstery in sort of a robins egg or turquoise blue - against that deep brown interior. Sigh. Tempted, tempted, tempted.

Now at $30 per yard for good upholstery fabric 54 inches wide - plus long zippers for the couch cushions , plus heavy duty thread.... Yes, still a better deal to buy that one 2007 I saw for $54 and spend a week reupholstering the dinette and the couch, but oh my bleeding hands! Getting the cushion INTO the cover is a pain in the tookus as a one person job.

OK, OK, don't get all excited. I'm talking myself down. Easy, easy.

Paula
