Thank the real 1%...

Those who step up and serve...
so we can slide around in our silver tubes.

Top...et 'alia'

I cant't imagine how difficult it must be for the Armed Forces today.

Our tours in country were 13 months....ONCE with a voluntary re-up.
We could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The stop-loss policy put in place after VN has changed everything. The strain on our troops and families today must be so much harder to deal with.

My nieces husband is in the NG and is a State Trooper in rural NY, with a 4yr old son. He will be leaving on his 4th tour after Christmas. Leaving his Family and ST Barracks to cope with the absence. We don't realize how difficult it is for many rural communities across the Country.

My friend (the airline pilot) was at 39,000 feet at the strike of the 11th hour on the 11th of November; the flight attendants asked for two minutes of silence.

Reminded me of the poem, High Flight....

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
No 412 squadron, RCAF
Killed 11 December 1941
